@garyackerman In STEM fields we have. It's still refreshing to see Weight in Kilograms and Celsius called the Metric metric for measuring Temperature.
Something about Mass and something about 273.15 degrees. Maybe having to keep track of two different systems has been beneficial in that we don't trust measurements. Some Americans are familiar with the Metric System thanks to drugs or weapons.
It could be considered part of our system of Checks and Balances. The Judicial, The Executive, The Legislative, The 5th Column, SAE and Metric System keep (Representative) Democracy mostly free (from decisions).
@thor The Doctor said that was the most erect she had ever seen me. Apparently it was the wrong medication but the compliment made me feel better.
@freemo I like to keep the chamber clear if I'm around any firearms as I still have nights where I sweat through sheets and wake up in an agitated state. No formal diagnosis for reasons related to employment.
@freemo The 9mm would penetrate thin steel better as 45acp has really poor performance in penetration. German helmets with the funny insignia would be penetrated by 9mm and the 45acp would just leave a big ass dent with blunt force trauma.
22lr fired from a standard rifle at 100 yards was the standard for determining the maximum effective range of a round. That energy at 100 yards was deemed to be the least amount of energy that could kill. 22lr is still quite deadly considering that it's likely never going to be just a single round that hits.
9mm Parabelem, used against minorities since its introduction. A proud tradition that still exists to this day. 45ACP, designed to put people down with a single round back when men fought with bare fists. 10mm, The round that defeated the pistols it was fired from.
@thor The egg came first followed by a truck crashing into a Taco Bell and then the DUI.
@thor Norwegians don't say much compared to Swedes but they convey more with less words. That's just been my experience interacting in American English.
The Swedes do seem to have less of an accent with a more colorful vocabulary. IE, Norwegians are better Engineers and Swedes are better for selling things. Also Norwegians seem to speak their mind instead of dicking around with useless pleasantries. It's very respectable.
@freemo @Hawk1291 That's odd about the 45LC. That was the first pistol caliber I shot and at 11 it wasn't uncomfortable. It was fired from a Single Action Army style revolver so all the mass was likely the reason.
Same day as I got introduced to the AR-15 in the form of a Bushmaster. I remember that both were oddly comfortable to shoot for an adolescent.
Oddly enough, I didn't like 9mm at first because of how quickly the barrel rises but it's just part of getting used to a new caliber.
Perhaps it is just based on my experience with long rifles. It's not love unless it leaves a bruise and a little tenderness the day after.
@freemo It's on target and that's what matters most. There are laser rounds that will allow you to zero the sights on your sidearm without the expense of a couple boxes of ammo.
Someone I know has a Kimber with a very light trigger. The hammer fell without pulling the trigger and while they haven't been able to replicate the problem, they made note of it.
In summary, keep the stock trigger or consider not having a round chambered when it's on top of the family bible next to the Jack and the 870.
It was a different model and in 45acp but it's something to think about. The problem that plagued the 10mm with the FBI was that the barrels wore out faster than they were expected to. The 1911 frame was also not quite up to the task in the early days but that's a Kimber and not a Colt. I've seen Kimbers feed JHP without jamming so they obviously have done some work on the design.
Have fun with that Kimber. The 45acp version had really good ergonomics and a good trigger from the factory. That being said, a Hi-Point put it to shame with group sizes two different times with 230gr ammo. The spread is just part of the design and honestly it's putting something down humanely and not measuring cocks that matters.
@thor Some of us don't sleep as often as recommended. Oddly it doesn't seem to matter too much.
@thendrix That can be uncomfortable. I remember watching gay porn for the first time and naturally it was really fucking deviant. I'm a weird motherfucker so having porn playing while I work is some shit I do to desensitize myself to distractions.
It gives off bad vibes and I don't regret it but I don't recommend going down that path. On a separate note, at least it was just gay porn and not something fucked up. It could have been political. I'd much rather see gay guys going at it than say political campaigns for governor. I'm not being fucked in one of those.
@freemo @TruthSandwich What's legal drugs and real weapons? Freedom should look anabolic, amped up and holding an M16. It says please tread on me, I'm really tolerant of people and their views.
@Paulos_the_fog @freemo @turboquokka @ariaflame @trinsec @pattykimura
This is the internet so try not to get upset. People with egos are likely very pathetic in person. With that being said, this was made by neckbeards for FOSS and possibly ranting about software licenses.
One should consider the argument as a whole before saying "...shoved down my throat..." It could have a meaning that makes a few onlookers crack a smile.
For the best experience it's advisable to just stick with people of similar values. Drama comes and it doesn't stop. The internet is where people can be whatever they want to be except free from tyranny.
Hope you have a good experience and everything gets settled.
@lupyuen I can't believe they reported that. The industry standard calls for wipes and shredding. A hard drive would be a logistical challenge to reuse as the quality couldn't be guaranteed.
Different manufacturers and different models of drives pose even more problems. There's a reason why Western Digital has different colored hard drives. A Red or a Purple drive would work well for storage but it wouldn't be acceptable to try to use one in place of a Black series.
The business section too. It could be viable if encryption is used on the whole hard drive but I highly doubt that this is a common occurrence. There's also the chance of someone grabbing the keys or using embedded malware to save the keys on an unwriteable area of the drive.
Scrap the old desktops but save the hard drives for reuse. That sounds like management.
@lore So many graphs could be incorporated to make a meme of incredible depth.

Lenovo UEFI CVE should bring up several years of incompetence. They say they will fix it and the next batch of exploits will come out. I would recommend staying away from them and anything they make.
@thendrix Not a fan of Kemp? You must live in Georgia. Even police despised Kemp for cutting mental health funding and demanding more drug arrests. It really says something when Police don't like a Republican.
@lore Excluding for the Floyd Rose Locking System and some other one that people don't care about. Active pickups were a big development that enabled essentially all guitars to sound the same. That might seem dumb but it allows an Audio Engineer to quickly and reliably set up a new guitar.
There has been a lot of work on guitars over the years. At the end of the day it's a stringed instrument and there's always something wrong with it. Metal and wood have different expansion points and Steel rusts. The knife edge bridge was introduced around 70 and I've performed with one of those. A super strat from 40 years later performs better and more reliably.
If you can't tell, guitars would have to be included with Keyboards. Small changes make a big difference. I've run soundboards for performances. I think I had 48 channels on one, 12 channels on another...knobs and sliders. Having to manage Analog and Digital instruments during a performance is really fun. By fun I mean having to cut volume on the speakers near the bass guitar so it wasn't picking up the vibrations from the other instruments and managing the intricacies of each instrument while maintaining sound quality for recording. Two recording systems running at the same time along with around 24 different microphones.
I should probably start putting some of this stuff down so I can use it in my CV. I've done a fair amount of audio work in years. It's just that there were systems from the 70s, 80s and 90s that were being used. Needless to say, there were two ABC fire extinguishers within reach with a shutdown procedure in case of a fire.
The only fires were due to an old Roland amp, a keyboard that was destroyed and the thing that a Hammond B3 uses. None of those were my problem.
