@adamdavidson I've thought about this. Here, threads don't make sense (I doubt I'll hit a 60k+ character limit) so cross posting from a twitter thread wouldn't look so great. The search algorithm is also so different in that only hashtags pop up, so that also changes formatting intent quite a lot.
@hilljam oh my gosh I love your profile picture animation. How did you make it?
Like ninety percent of the #introduction posts I read I’m like “ This person is a huge nerd.” Which I mean in the best, most loving, most complimentary way. My people 😍
@joshtpm I had a vague idea about instances because it was the reason why I didn't make an account sooner. I didn't quite understand that we would all still be connected. I'm happy I landed on qoto. I wanted one that was science-focused yet chill. I already question literally everything about everything so the acronym resonated a lot. (Question Others to Teach Ourselves) Though I do a fair bit of questioning myself and teaching others, too.
@LaRougeAbeille Thank you for being so thoughtful with your content warnings. 💖💖💖
Very quick intro before I have the spoons for a longer one! I’m part of the #Twittermigration and doing my best to learn about and respect the culture/etiquette here. I promise I’m not *all* doom and gloom, but I do use SM primarily for connecting with others in the Covid cautious community. I will put a CW on nearly all of my posts, but not sure how to approach reblogs. (Let me know if there’s a good way to be respectful about this.) I’d absolutely love to make new friends here, but please don’t follow me if you don’t ever want to see anything “serious.” 🧡✌🏼🧡
Are you attending Society for #neuroscience next week?
Come to SFN Banter!
A whole bar with open air space has been reserved by ✨two great trainees✨ who singlehandedly corralled the financial support 💰💰 of many great scientific vendors.
#sfnbanter22 will be at Sidebar (536 Market Street) on Monday 11/14 during #SfN2022 starting at 9pm!
Now more than ever, we got a lot to Banter about!
🧠 moving to Mastodon
🧠 staying on Twits
🧠 starting our own social media site MarbleBurying dot com
#introduction
Hi all,
I am an assistant professor in #neuroscience at Georgetown University. My lab studies the cells and circuits that degenerate in Parkinson's Disease.
Check out our #SfN2022 posters in the Saturday Basal Ganglia session (session #55)
I want to echo what other Mastodon admins are saying: please report any harassment or violative messages you're seeing. Unlike the birdsite, your local admin will likely react quickly -- and you'll make the instance better for everyone, not just yourself.
So... please don't just ignore! Let us know if there's a problem.
⚠️ Daily reminder to have a scroll through #introduction and spend some time welcoming our new community members.
Social media is just that - social. They’ve made the first move by putting themselves out there. So I challenge everyone to take a moment to say hi or follow. You might just make someone’s day 🤗
New paper in Nature Comms suggests that targeting soluble p-tau may be more effective during early stages of #Alzheimers disease rather than clearing #tau tangles present later in #dementia. This is because early cognitive decline most associated with CSF soluble p-tau.

Solubility seems to be the topic of the month. Boosting soluble beta-amyloid has been suggested as one of the reasons why #lecanemab might have worked where other #amyloid agents had failed.
@petr very cool to see this got almost a hundred votes! Y'all are here!
With the #neurosciencemigration gaining momentum, I'm curious how everyone joining from Twitter is thinking about using the two platforms in the near future?
Twitter was really useful for finding people to write about. I’d often stumble across incredible stories of discovery, innovation and leadership. I hope #ScienceMastodon can be the same. If you come across extraordinary, inspirational #WomenInSTEM / researchers from other historically excluded groups, please let me know! #TwitterMigration
I’m quite impressed by (a) how helpful existing users of Mastodon have been for all of us noobs trying to learn a new system, and (b) by the deep and widely-held sense of a Fediverse culture (the fact that there’s a “we” that uses content warnings more liberally, alt text more frequently, etc) - it’s complete with a sense of place, ethics, identity. It’s fascinating, and makes me glad to have had the good fortune to stumble into it.
@bmeagher Welcome and congrats on the PhD! I haven't played tabletop in years, but I'm extremely stoked for Baldur's Gate 3. I'm not sure if it's healthy to be stoked for this long because it's been an early release for awhile now. 😹
Hey all, giving this a try! I'm a recently minted cognitive psychology PhD looking to get into data science. My academic interests are broad, but most prominently include categorization, recognition, and formal modelling of mental processes. I learn languages for fun, and probably play too much D&D in my spare time. Don't be a stranger! #intro #newtooter
Extremely stubborn MD/PhD student investigating pain and memory. I'm in my third year of a seven-year-long Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson pursuing my PhD in #neuroscience.

All posts are personal opinions and do not represent any specific institution I'm affiliated with, but the academic world would probably be way better if they did.
