ICYMI last week, a leading German #OpenScience figure took an Elsevier-sponsored professorship:

We all know what happened to the Mendeley employees who stayed on after they were bought by Elsevier and hoped they could change the giant from within.

It is not difficult to imagine how Elsevier feels about this latest acquisition.

@brembs I remember one of the Mendeley founders telling me how they would change the Elsevier culture. It was already kind of funny back then.

I'm not sure how many (of the employees or of the audience) really believed the "change from within" statements.

Then as now, such moves always lack credibility and lead to lasting lack of trust.
