There’s now a directory of academics on Mastodon organized by discipline.

I’ve asked for our Literary Studies list to be added to the directory. But in the mean time I’m linking to it below.

#introduction I was once a chemist for my sins and got the letters after and before my name to show for it all. I don't do chemistry now in RL: I work for a university as an IT product analyst.
I do however run this project chem4word.co.uk/ which aims to put science tools in the hands of ordinary citizens. It's got over 500,000 downloads, which is nice.

Hi everyone. I’m Jess, a materials scientist working on next-generation optical and electronic devices. I spend all my free time trying to make science more inclusive. For the last four years I’ve spent every evening writing the Wikipedia biographies of scientists from historically excluded groups. I’m nearly at 1800!! #WomenInSTEM

Well, I'm here. Getting to grips with everything.

Computational methods developer in structural biology, refinement & protein engineering, protein dynamics: my scientific profile. Will be leading a new lab in a few months' time.

Hobbies outside science include blacksmithing, leatherwork, dressmaking and more than I can simultaneously fit into my free time.

Introduction
I am Jon Agirre (Glyco Jones ≈ addicted to #glycotime) and I am a Royal Society URF at YSBL, Department of Chemistry, The University of York, UK. I run a diverse team of ~10 people, some of them developing new software for structural glycobiology, others looking at #MachineLearning approaches to structure validation. I helped create #Privateer, Iris, #CCP4i2 and others. Hobbies: I play electric guitar, and have crafted my own guitar, effects pedals, board and cables. I am #autistic.

Lotta complaining about the unintuitiveness and learning curve of Mastodon from people who use Excel on a daily basis.

For ten years I've ran a very Glaswegian weather website: taps-aff.co.uk/

It averages around a million page views per year and is now popular enough that people get annoyed when it's posted to Reddit

After the last rebuild I wrote up its development path for anyone interested

As #mastodon grew this week I noticed more photos being posted without a description of the photo.

Please include it! Part of the reason I joined is because this placed seemed more accessible.

What I'm trying to say is I want to boost your cat photos, but I can't in good conscience do so unless those photos are accessible.

Together with a group of stellar professors in the UK and US, I've co-authored an article for the Chronicle of Higher Education on #LongCovid

In this, we highlight how universities could provide more strategic support to all of us with chronic health issues including a rethink of medical evaluation, wide reaching and flexible accommodations, peer-to-peer support and tackling academia's culture of #ableism.

Recent from the bird app, so here is my
I’m a medicinal chemist who works in for Cancer Research Horizons (all views my own etc.). I currently have an interest in Fragment-Based drug discovery, new therapeutic modalities, GTP-ases and enabling synthetic methodologies.
I’ve previously worked in both the CRO and Agrochemical sector, where as I’ve also gained experience in Combinatorial and Process

@CraigOfWaffles probably just good ol’ fashioned Molecular Weight would work well here. At a MW of 627, bemotrizinol is large enough for a med chemist to look at it and think “that chonky”. Other, surface-based descriptors such as SASA and TPSA could also be relevant, but will come with some assumptions based on solvent etc, and might not be as intuitive.

So far, there are only 42 votes on my poll to #ChemTwitter as to what we should call our community on #Mastodon...

Vote there, or reply here with your preferences...

Choices include #ChemMastodon, #ChemToots, and #MastoChem. #ChemMasts, #ChemTootle, and #ChemiVerse have received some nods, too...
