While I'm totes impressed by the level of *integration* you see in the #Mac ecosystem - apps being able to talk to the OS and call its services, apps being able to talk to other apps using a standardized interface of dictionaries and verbs, man oh man I *REALLY* want this for #linux

There's no reason we can't have it. People just need to be able to agree on standardized interfaces for things.

This is why I get kinda sad when I think about this stuff, because even things as simple as "Hey y'all we REALLY need to agree on how to cut and paste" turn into hard problems, and efforts like the Free Desktop project never really achieve their full potential.

I think sometimes Linux developers mistake standards for strait jackets as an absolute idea.

They're *TOTALLY* not. They *CAN* be if mis-applied, but modern marvels like the internet show that when we get broad agreement on how things can work, a thousand flowers can bloom *AND* we can improve our quality of life.

"Family of Christian Terrorists Killed Cops in Survivalist Ambush"

That was in Australia. Of course "the religious group had a connection to a similar group in the U.S., and officers had shared information found in text messages with the U.S. police."

#News from @jonkeegan: If you’re a Kroger rewards shopper, the chain is collecting info about you—and not just what you buy.

It’s building a profile that may include your race, financial status, and even inferred interests. It then sells insights to major brands like General Mills, CocaCola, and Kraft Heinz.

@WarnerCrocker
Not seeing any benefit in joining one of the new #Twitter knockoffs like #Post, #Spill or #T2 — much rather put my energy into #Mastodon#opensource, #decentralized and little chance for some pathetic, egotistical, narcissistic #billionaire to take it over!

It's funny that mastodon.au has decided to shut down for unclear reasons, I've offered to host it in no-new-users mode for the foreseeable future, and instead the owner deleted their account. WTAF. Anyway, if any one wants to move, wig.gl is open for new signups. #MastodonAUExodus #migration #FindAServer

For bonus points, wig.gl has its own favicon!

Recently @zemarmot has been working on the last big piece of GTK+3 port: port #GIMP core action code to GAction/GtkMenu.

Nikc, latest core dev, does the same for plug-ins.

Many thousands of line of code changed (half the work done?). Not much to show in term of screenshot as the point is to have GIMP working the same after.

Though the last 2 weeks in particular, we have been focusing on fixing the last few bits for the next stable release, GIMP 2.10.34!

To be continued…

@resist_fascism I'm stunned by what's going on in the U.S. Conservatism is huge. In some U.S. states, it is beginning to look like a dictatorship and wealthy white men seem to be afraid of losing power. What scares me is that US trends always blow over to the Netherlands and the rest of the world. Stay committed to a fair world.💪
