EU wants to ban open source operating systems. If this will be true and if I have understand it correctly, use of Linux will be forbidden within EU in the future.
Is it news to us that the big tech companies don't care about the spreading of malinformation and hate-speach at all?

Toxic train derailment due to greed and weakened rules: Sherrod Brown
The senator cites pressure from lobbyists to weaken regulations.“Every time there’s a new administration,” Brown explained, “particularly a more conservative one that’s more pro-corporate, they put all these regulations on the table about safety, about worker safety, community safety, the environment, consumer protections, and, at the behest of lobbyists, far too often, they weaken those laws.”

President Carter’s viral essay:
“My decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades.…was…unavoidable…when the convention's leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be ‘subservient’ to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains….”

The local University #MichiganTech recently reversed a student government decision and forced them to fund a conservative speaker from Turning Point USA claiming that not doing so violated the speaker's constitutionally protected free speech. A busy week of student activism, secret meetings, and social media pressure all lead up to a fierce clash between students and administration this past Friday.
If that sounds interesting then give my story a read.

I keep wondering at what point Big Journalism will awaken to the threat(s) posed by DeSantis, who is a Trump-like power-monger but with more brains.
As Nieman Lab reports, his anti-journalism agenda is deeper and more dangerous, too.
But you can count on the NY Times et al to focus on everything but the danger he poses to democracy. Business as usual political "coverage" prevail for the most part.
So much as stake, and so little media awareness...
