There seems to be a lot of confusion about why there are so many less workers now than there were in '19.

Let me explain.
- A new sickness emerged.
- We ignored it for a while.
- We took it seriously for approximately 2 seconds.
- We let it rip.
- Lots of people died and are still dying.
- Lots more people became or are becoming disabled to mild or severe degrees, with no prognosis of recovery.
- We aren't sure what else will happen to the infected.

That's what happened and is still happening.

Arizona Senate bill to ban ‘lewd or sexual’ books called unconstitutional by experts tucsonsentinel.com/local/repor
A bill in the Arizona Senate that aims to give parents more control over what books students read in school is unconstitutional, and critics say the bill’s language isn’t really aimed at protecting children but instead targets LGBTQ children directly.

Getting harder to be a librarian, especially my public and school brethren (although I am sure they'll come for me in due time).

"What Transparency? Twitter Seems To Have Forgotten About Transparency Reporting "

As of today, Twitter is still sharing with Lumen information from some of the takedown notices that Twitter receives, but this is really too bad for transparency generally.

Want to catch up on the most recent FL attacks on higher ed?

Here's a good piece on the most recent FL/DeSantos bills. The piece makes the case that opponents need to take up the issue of "competence" and "expertise" since the free speech argument is getting limited traction.

Web hosting giant GoDaddy made headlines this month when it disclosed that a multi-year breach allowed intruders to steal company source code, siphon customer and employee login credentials, and foist malware on customer websites. Media coverage understandably focused on GoDaddy's admission that it suffered three different cyberattacks over as many years at the hands of the same hacking group.  But it's worth revisiting how this group typically got in to targeted companies: By calling employees and tricking them into navigating to a phishing website.

Why is it so hard to be a good maintainer?

I have worked on my open-source project day and night for several years. Probably even more than I should. I'm trying to satisfy everyone.

But then there is precisely the one type of user that takes the fun out of the project for me personally. These people love to discuss but have no insight when you try to explain to them several times that it is impossible and, in the end, you will be personally abused.

A reminder for people in the back: The First Amendment says the government can't pass laws to stop free speech. Says nothing about there being no consequences for this stupid, racist, misogynistic shit you might say. Like, for example, your distributor dropping your comic strip like it was warm maggot-laden feces because you're a racist, misogynistic douchenozzle.
