This is NGC 2359, Thor's Helmet Nebula. Also called the Duck Nebula, but between you and me, I'm not seeing the duck. This is 2 1/2 hours of it. When the rain and the moon go away again I'm going to try for 10-15 hours of this one.

You certainly don't get #skies quite like this here in the UK! This is me under the spectacular #starry skies above the #ESO #LaSilla #Observatory in #Chile. Above and to the right you can see the Large and Small #MagellanicClouds. These are relatively small galaxies that orbit our #MilkyWay #Galaxy. Literally galaxy moons!

'Laugh now...' Banksy's monkey trade mark is valid.

The 5th Board of Appeal of the EUIPO confirms it.

In a decision on Case R1246/2021-5, the Board of Appeal annuls the cancellation of the EUTM and rules that there is no bad faith (the Cancellation Division considered that Banksy never had any intention to use the mark).

M 6.2 #earthquake 29 km SW of Las Brisas, #Mexico

#Baja California (part of Mexico), is moving NW at ~50 mm/year riding on the Pacific Plate.

This region is part of the Pacific / North American plate boundary where the plates are sliding past each other, causing right lateral strike-slip faulting.

Something that I hope to spend more time on now that I've wrapped up my PhD is astrophotography.

This photo of the Milky Way was captured over the dark skies of the Ozarks in August 2020. Designated as an International Dark Sky Site, the glow of light pollution is still visible on the horizon, in this case the light dome from Little Rock and surrounding areas.

This photo is a stacked and tracked 30-image composite taken over 30 minutes.

Our team has released FIVE papers today on the most COMPREHENSIVE study of an #exoplanet atmosphere to date!

Using #JWST we obtained four transit observations of #WASP-39b early in the telescope's operations to study both the planet itself, and the telescope's capabilities to observe exoplanet atmospheres.

We detected numerous molecules in the planet's atmosphere, including CO2, CO, H2O, and SO2 🧵

This is the #Apollo 14 command module 'Kitty Hawk'. It flew #astronauts Roosa, Sheppard and Mitchell to the moon and back in January and February 1971. Fun fact: The astronauts were in Germany for their #geology training in August 1970. In the Nördlinger Ries impact crater in southern Germany, they encountered geological conditions somewhat similar to those at the landing site in the Fra Mauro region. The command module in on display at the Kennedy Space Center in #Florida.

#NASA announced that on December 5th, as the #Orion #Spacecraft makes its final de-orbital burn to return home to Earth, it will pass over Mare Tranquillitatis and photograph Tranquility Base from above. The Spirit of Apollo 11 & the Eagle lives on. #space #astronomy #moon #artemis
