Most systems that modern city people rely on are not thought out to maximize well being, but social control. To limit human potential to what is possible under such circumstances is a mistake. We could have so much more. But capitalism... That is the real limit we are living under.

I often think about my city before colonization. The advanced tech and science that made this city an edible garden. More than 5 centuries of resistance later, all is not lost. I have reasons to hope, while I weep for all that is forever lost.

I would never deny the impact human activity has had on our Earth. It is totally fair to lament the negative impact of industrialization. But please do not loose sight of how much bigger the Sun is in relation to our Planet, when talking about what might be triggering planetary scale climate change. The whole of the Solar System is feeling it.
Misattributing the cause is about financial interest, the same interest that destroyed so many ecosystems and peoples, which just got a new excuse for centralizing power and resources.

Talking "facts" is meaningless if one looses sight of scale. Making false equivalents, taking things out of proportion, and making false associations is not debating, no matter how much fact based. Scale is not about interpretation.

@freeschool It is proven possible by all the cultures and peoples that lived and live it. They are very diverse so the limit is our imagination.

Capitalism pushes explotation on us. The way to go is its abolition.

In the coming times of economic hardship, destigmatizing sexwork should take a priority. Punishing people that do sexwork or their clients is punishing poverty and consent. I hope that people that explore sexwork as an alternative income know that there are networks and ways to reduce possible risk and harm. That they have rights because they are workers and sexwork does not devalue them.

Since I was young, I have been proud to have some friends that according to some "looked like hoes". When I was still child, and some of my friend were still girls, they were getting sexualized by adults and older kids and told that they somehow were trying to appear seductive. Harrassed.
And I can assure all: it was not about the type of clothes they wore, or how they behaved. It was about some people, specially racialized and fat folks, being read as sexually explicit, pornographic.
My young friends knew it was wrong and stood up for themselves and since then I revere people that fight against oppression.
I hope for a future where we no longer stigmatize sex work, sex workers and their clients. In which a child can hope to grow up to be a sex worker without getting reprimanded.

I think that STEM people tend to lean into "beyond left and right" perspective. Sometimes the "beyond left and right" scenes are just hooks into right wing propaganda. But sometimes they lead to opportunities to analyze beyond the usual talk points. I think Dr Shiva accomplishes that on his last videos on the current geopolitical situation.

Long post are often not worth it. Some people's time is just that much more valuable, it is not about them overvaluing. Also, you seem to be asuming way too much over how people choose to engage.
I recommend using CW on longer post so people may choose to engage with what interest them instead of it having it clog up their screen without warning or way to opt out.

What anyone considers tacky is more about their class origin and aspirations than about customs that are more or less shared throughout the world, even if expressed with different standards. How you decide to engage in classism, racism and misogyny is not only about “custom”, but customs that will get opposed.
In some countries women are opposing the hijab, in others the whole “revealing clothes” BS.
I think dressing like a slut at work or anywhere is pretty good praxis. Because it sets a precedent: that sluts belong everywhere because they are people and that is enough for them to respected and included.

Banning nipples from the workplace is worse than silly, it is misogyny. Babies go unfed in some contexts because banning the sight of nipples takes priority. Nipples belong on people’s bodies and making them an issue in a professional context may be considered sexual harassment.

Also. What is considered appropriate and professional in a territory like Canada, that still is submitted to the Crown’s whims, is very much due to colonialism.

@marathon0 Honestly, I fear some folks that grew up shielded from the sight of nipples. Free the nipples, I say. Why is it not professional? I think that people wearing prosthetic is quite human, we love tools and prosthetic are just that. Them being large or having nipples should be a non issue. Anyone finding them distracting is probably distracted because they have been artificially made a rare sight by harassing folks into presenting as nipple free creatures.
These views are paired with assuming that the whole world grieves the death of a white woman responsible for genocide so it figures. They fail to note why celebrating a mass murderer might be triggering to some, but consider legitimate fearing the influence of nipples on young minds. Colonialism much?
And I mean it. being afraid of those people. They are over represented when it comes to sexually harassing others because they assumed their physical presentation somehow makes it okay.

Telling someone off can be a right response given the right prelude. It can actually be quite beautiful. Like punching back.

Showing anger is believed by some to be inherently violent. Others make room for it depending on the situation. However, it can be violent to demand people repress their emotions to suit your comfort or that they not defend themselves when it inconveniences you.

Inadequate responses often lack scale. A response being out of proportion to what triggered it is not necessarily in denial of what happened it, but the usage of scales might be way off.

Even when the situation did not "demand" it, showing anger is okay. Anger is just an emotion, but who decides how it should be expressed? Some scenes decide to right out banish it. Others limit it. Because it serves a purpose.

Instead of focusing on whether it is proportional, we can figure out what triggered it and what can be done about it instead of ignoring it or shoving it under the rug. Showing anger can be disruptive and we can make room for that and benefit from it.

Even if such an expression is retrospectively out of proportion, opportunities might arise. Misunderstandings may be cleared out and the usage of scales, because they were tested may be improved. Embrace disruption, moving on is actually easier if we collectively make room for big emotions.

I hate some national flags more than others. I am okay with those that have not been flown over colonized nations to signal their subjugation.
