We were in the neighborhood, so we stopped by the vacant lot that once held The Demon House in Gary, Indiana. Legend has it that there is a portal to Hell under this tree. What if the nuclear-capable Security Council member that goes rogue and scares the world; that closes its borders, gets sucked into oligarchic feudalism, with civil strife, authoritarianism, food shortages, gross legal/political divisions between its national capital and remote oblasts; that unilaterally reneges on treaties; that is considered untrustworthy, mendacious, & xenophobic by the outside world ...
... what if that _isn't_ Russia?
If there is a cave of snakes, and the snakes are coming out of the cave and attacking you, perhaps it would be a more effective use of your time to do something about the cave instead of constantly fighting one snake after another. The snakes will just keep coming, and while you are busy fighting them, the snake-cave builder is building another snake cave.

The US is no longer filled with potential locations for business conferences, especially if they are women focused. I realize some of these conference locations are planned and contracted way in advance, but organizers need to take a stand against states that are enacting suppressive and in many cases what will be deadly legislation.

We thought we were making progress. It seemed like a slow but steady movement forward towards justice and fairness. We even had a black president. We thought we could kick back and relax because the hard part was over. But while we were content in our illusion of progress, playing video games and watching TV, the Nazis were infiltrating our police, our schools, and our military. They made us think we were making progress so we would sit down and shut up. Ignorance and bigotry are forever busy, and we need to be busy too, or else they will win.
