@bibliolater It is. Mainline Mastodon is against it because, according to them, it can only be used for evil.
Anyway, as long as you're respectful, use it you wish. Just keep in mind that Mastodon people won't be able to see the quote, only your post. Other applications, like Pleroma, Misskey and their forks, support it just fine.
It is also important to note that the quoted account does not get notified, so you may want to mention them. Then again, you don't have to.
