I hadn't planned on making this image until later in spring with lime green leaves, but alas there was an opportunity that was too good to pass up.

This veteran hornbeam has bags of character - I just love its shape. The snowstorm lasted about an hour in the dying light of the day.

By morning the snow was gone, and the opportunity had gone. Sometimes you just have to take advantage of a short window.

Nanabozho great spirit-being?

Nanabozo is a supernatural being of various Indigenous oral traditions. He is the embodiment of life, with the power to create life in others. In some Anishinaabe and Cree stories, Nanabozo is a main player in the creation of Turtle Island. Nanabozho is a shapeshifter who is both zoomorphic as well as anthropomorphic, meaning that Nanabozho can take the shape of animals or humans in storytelling. Thus Nanabush takes many different forms in storytelling, often changing depending on the tribe. The majority of storytelling depicts Nanabozho through a zoomorphic lens. In the Arctic and sub-Arctic, the trickster is usually called Raven. Coyote is present in the area of California, Oregon, the inland plateau, the Great Basin, and the Southwest and Southern Plains. Rabbit or Hare is the trickster figure in the Southeast, and Spider is in the northern plains. Meanwhile, Wolverine and Jay are the trickster in parts of Canada.

Often, Nanabozho takes the shape of these animals because of their frequent presence among tribes. The animals listed above have similar behavioral patterns. The gender identity of Nanabozho changes depending on the storytelling. Because Nanabozho is a shapeshifter, they are androgynous. While the majority of stories told about the trickster figure are written with he/him pronouns, the gender identity changes depending on the story and many are written with feminine pronouns.

Warble at my feeder. It is a good moment when everything stressful fades because a bird looks you in the eye and says good morning. I always leave before it becomes agitated, knowing we will greet each other again.

I interviewed Michelle Yeoh a few years ago about #StarTrekDiscovery and I mentioned offhand that I'd written an article about what seeing her use her accent on the bridge of a starship meant to me.

She stopped and said "Wait, that was YOU?"

And then proceeded to talk about how much that article had meant to HER and how it contributed to the success of the show.

I can't think about it without crying.

The unwelcome task of re-organising photo files. It does have the compensation of uncovering images you had forgotten about... patterns in frozen puddles...

Or perhaps, just perhaps, the nation’s supposedly leading business newspaper would have better seen these failures coming if they had focused more on market, economic, and business conditions and less on obsessively rooting out the woke menace of women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and veterans(!) gaining token admission to the corridors of power and wealth.

you do not need corporate algorithms to recommend you movies and music: ask your friends!

your friends:
- have your best interests at heart
- will not sell your data for money
- enjoy sharing interests with you
- know your tastes and interests based on more than your purchase history

I'm not being hyperbolic. This was literally the bank that the most anti-woke people used. The people that write anti-woke books like this.

Black folk weren't architects of either the hedging strategy or the bank run.

Don't bank run on your own bank, then try to blame it on us.

I'm not saying that Black folk didn't care about the Venture Capital money in Silicon Valley Bank. I'm just saying that we probably cared about it ~98% less than the rest of y'all. 🤷🏿‍♂️
