@SecondJon I meant people who blindly hit retweet on things that fit their ideology. And I list this as example of the kind of things I don't want to have on my feed in general; I am not saying that you do this.

@SecondJon Thank you, I appreciate this statement of what you see in the post. Posts like this that directly state the problem are more my style. I don't intend to unfollow for views I disagree with, but for emotional diatribes, mixing facts with exaggerations and imagined facts*, in-group buzzwords, and high-volume blind retweets. Not even out of principle but because it's exhausting to pick apart and respond.
*I do it enough myself

@finity I'm splitting off the generically reusable part of my physics simulation. This should allow people to plug in any Object that returns an energy and get its equilibrium statistical physics.

@timcast @SecondJon attempting to engage in reasoning is probably a mistake but here we go, before I unfollow to not see these boosts. Yes you can't do all those things right now. "the left" is holding protests and "the right" is holding rallies too, with the same weighing of necessity vs health concern. "can destroy statues" is a total red herring in this list, if you feel hurt at statues taken down it still has nothing to do with civil liberties vs coronavirus prevention. and the generalized feeling of victimization and pre-emptive dismissal of anything "the media" might say has no place in the constructive conversation society needs right now.

think of something you've tried to do or learn before and found pretty difficult, especially something from when you were younger. if you try doing or learning it now, there's a decent chance you will still struggle with it... but a surprisingly high one that it'll somehow be really easy suddenly because you've picked up some orthogonal skill or knowledge that inexplicably changed your brain to a subtly different and better brain without you noticing

@zleap Just to be clear I'm not complaining about anything on mastodon, I'm vaguely venting about a conversation I just had in real life, and criticizing myself for not doing enough when such an opportunity comes up.
What you describe definitely seems like a good direction.

I'm sick of white people and I am white people.
But I didn't speak up and even now I'm limited to vaguely complaining on not-twitter. Needs improvement. Maybe the only way is to literally write down scripts for the person I ought to be.
It's all <privileged group>'s job to keep other <privileged group>, your family, your colleagues, etc in check when it's safe to do so, at a minimum.

I have a fun phishing email with an encrypted supposedly-pdf. Is it safe to check it out with a virtual machine?
