I am already a white male so for Halloween, if I just carry a bible and quote Ayn Rand, I can go as the legit scariest fucking thing in America.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone learned to sign, at least a little bit? I like the Bright BSL app. brightbsl.co.uk/app

My toxic trait is telling people I’m down for anything when in reality I mean not after 8 pm, food should be involved, and it also depends on the weather, the parking situation, and how tired I am.

When we think about that quarter million dollar loan for an RV that a rich friend of his forgave, we should remember also that Clarence Thomas voted against forgiving student debt loans for millions.

I don’t know the answer to many of the world’s great problems. But have they tried diverting all power to the forward array? That worked for us often.

Troll/reply guy tried to get me to back down from my unequivocal statement that there's no evidence the 2020 election was stolen, claiming it's better to "meet people halfway" if I want to convince them.

No. As a researcher and educator, I believe in providing clear, accurate information.

The "evidence" that the election was stolen is made up bullshit. To call it anything else is a disservice.

If someone claims that 2+2=5, I'm not going to try to get them to compromise that it's 4.5.

Thousands of Jews are currently occupying NYC's Grand Central Station to demand a ceasefire. We need this in every city!!!

The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore.

It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that mostly isn't relevant...

My whole political position right now is, don't kill innocents. Don't kill children.

Don't kill them!! not with assault rifles, not in retaliation, not with bombs, not with lousy public health policy.

Do not kill them, just do not do it! Can we all just get behind this one thing.

Bumblebees learn by observing other bees. Bumblebees, like ants, may even teach each other. In a University of London experiment a bee watched a "fake bee" (a fuzzy yellow & black orb on a stick) pushing a yellow ball into a circle for a sugar water reward. The bee copied this action.

When a nest mate was introduced, they learned by watching the bee trained in the previous experiment. I find the idea of a "fake bee" adorable.

The House has a new Speaker, and he is truly awful. He represents the worst of MAGA extremism, and there’s turbulence ahead on the budget and Ukraine aid. But zooming out, his election could also be a HUGE problem for the GOP. How so, in today’s piece. open.substack.com/pub/statusku

These can be really hard ... this took some time and effort:

I don't know enough to have an opinion on whether LLMs are going to revolutionize software development or not. What I _do_ know is that very few of the papers being posted on arXiv are based on any coherent theory: they're the equivalent of, "Hey look, I irradiated [thing] and I noticed [effect]." That might be a necessary step in the early days of a new field, but watching so many young researchers pack up and head for Alaska for the gold rush is wearying. 2/

There is a new feature of Mastodon that I wanted to highlight for you all.

I had no use for the Lists feature before- but as of the recent 4.2 update, you can put some people you follow into a list- and then you can check a box in that list's details to NOT SHOW their posts in your main feed.

This could totally change Mastodon for me, in the best way.

I follow some newsy-political accounts, and often rush by them in the feed if I'm not in the mood to hear (more) bad news. Now I can put them in a list and not see them at all in and among the feed of real thoughts, pictures, artwork and jokes you amazing people share.

And when I actually feel like engaging with the news/politics of the world, I can pop over to that list and see only that stuff in there.

This way you can have customized feeds of different kinds of accounts, and just see your tried and true favorite people in the main feed.

It's a multi-Mastodon-feed experience, separated by mood and preference.
Which for me is brilliant!
