That is something that is very much neeeded, Will - I am glad to have seen your post and not trying out GuppeGroups.
We can't grow without having a way to organize information in some kind of group structure, I had made a post with some thoughts earlier today and this was one of them. Hashtags are not the solution.
Thank you for the project, I will try it and spread the word at our instance. I think it's VERY useful.

@loke @thegibson @fnn for my part, I'm working on a fediverse app that adds social groups functionality across fedi platforms over at @GuppeGroups
@Surasanji Have a good trip, Dave!
long post
@requrious@mastodon.social Req, I am a new user both on fediverse and qoto.org, which I did find via the listing you are discussing here.
I have been involved in what today we call social networking sicne the early 90s, via local BBSes and Fidonet. (I actually was surprised by the orgazational structure here, which closely resembles FN)
It's been only one week for me, but I have amybe over 500 posts, all from my qoto account. I have not seen any posts originating or appearing in qoto's Local feed that were rude, disrespectful, obnoxious or inapropriate. (and I have been a mod in different places and systems over the years.)
I think @freemo is doing a good job and the instance is growing. It does have a more open policy than other instances I had visited, where posting something like a Political newspaper snippet/link requires a Content Warning, which dismayed me (and I wouldn't personally participate there).
Qoto has been getting a number of new users and growing. Many come in after finding it via the page you referred to, and I think they are well served at that instance.
I am not at this point staff, mod or admin at the site, but support the sys admin and the listing of the instance as a satisfied user.
The final paragraph of the Rules section summarizes well, I think, the local policy, and I quote:
"We are all adults here, act like it. Despite our belief in freedom of expression (free speech) we want to create a space where people are respectful to each other. Don't disrespect people; if they disrespect you then block them and move on. If we get a report on one of our users then an administrator will reach out to the parties involved and try to mediate a peaceful resolution. We will talk it through like mature adults. Lets remember there is a person at the other end of the screen, if we can be mature in real life we can do it here too."
Thank you.
The fight goes on in #chile (Spanish text)
* Protests in Chile continue with a General Strike *
"The error was to think that what existed was Peace, when in reality it was a terrible silence."

** Things I would like to see in Fediverse and Mastodon:
- When Boosting a post, the option to add a note or comment at the top (like it's possible when retweeting)
- When people reply to a thread, that all people who posted on it so far got notified; sometimes threads branch off by posters removing attributions or replying only to one poster. It would be more productive if all saw it, imo.
- in a more distant future, the amount of content will be so large that it will be hard to follow on chronological timelines, all posts into one big humongous Feed. (think Facebook?)
Hashtags alone are not much of a separation, although they might helpf find something. Ideally, I would think something like the usenet newsgroups would tidy things up nicer.
- If people understood that hashtags are not Cutesy decorations and did not abuse them like is common in certain (insta) places, Searching with Useful hashes would be sped up.
All those words marked one by one with hashes are typically K Kardashian style, very gauche imo.
@freemo Ah, wonderful, TY!

Here's the book I mentioned above, and it's a great read. "Codes, Cyphers and Secret Languages", by Fred B. Wrixon.
Some really low price used copies on Alibris in USA, if anyone wants one.
Wonderful!
Maybe you can work on the intro, and if necessary move some of the current content to further, linked pages -- new chapters, to make it easier to read and digest.
It's definitely not a simple topic, so breaking it into multiple posts is a good idea, imo.

Yes, I had heard and then read about it. Apparently, a retired person could get up to 10 years residence there without paying Portuguese income taxes on their world wide income.
IF you can get your original country, where the income flow is originating even after you left, that you are now a Non-Resident, you could get a good break.
Canada REvenue agency has its own rules to determine when a canadian citizen (my case) is accepted as non-resident. Until they accept that, they can slap you with a "assumed resident" tax. You probably could get credit for that when filing in Portugal, though.
Changing country is not a simple thing, specially when you have assets, income and need to consider health care too.
But it's possible, and like you said, Europeans are taking advantage of it. It's a wonderful place to live, and lower costs than their home countries.
