@moonshine@freespeechextremist.com @Full_marx Oh, good. Thanks!

I was already thinking of having one more research topic - is there an algo ordering posts on feedverse feedlines?

Would be glad if it was or is purely temporal, linear.

@shibaprasad @Surasanji Physically, I can graps the concept, the 10 x 10 square has four times the area of the 5 x 5 one.

But really? until now I have thought that the number of points is infinite in both cases, and wouldn't be quantifiable as in, one has more than the other.

@Karthikdeva @freemo Now it would be a good time for some creative writers to imagine possible futures.

There are so many things at play. Climate change impact might force big changes in the way things run in the planet.

@moonshine@freespeechextremist.com @Full_marx oooh, thanks moon.

I had no idea. Bubble effect built into algorythms. 😔

@freemo @Karthikdeva Found a lists for genre movies.

utopiaanddystopia.com/dystopia

Now, trying to recall the name of that one where a man crosses the post apocalyptic US, and ends up in San Francisco, where a working print press is alive and producing books are ages without them.

@Full_marx Another factor --- I think the common, one liner format from people trained by twitter to fit into 140 chars or less is even more damaging.

A longer post in that feed would give you a visual anchor, somewhere to stick your eyes to, a pause.

Those one liners, zingy and so frequently obscure posts are very distracting, and a zillion other ones follow in a blink.

@shibaprasad @Surasanji

My bad, took thread on a tangent. Sorry. 😏

Now back on the Math side, is it a fact, what you mentioned? Are there bigger and smaller infinities?

@QOTO Do people need to create an account on the Discourse server to write a post? I assume so, right?

@Full_marx OMG, click on the Local feed, the Federated one is impossible to follow. Sometimes I hold on the scroll bar on the side, and then I can actually read something. But I can't stay there long.

@_lunawinters @freemo Yep, I prefer the books too.

LibraryThing is an excellent place to create an account if you do have many books -- you can use it to catalog your books, find people with similar collections, recommendations on titles.

It helps remind you if you have some title or not, before buying another copy on impulse too. I have my library catalog there, after a few of those repeat buys. 😏

@shinchan The vastness of the universe, and the amount of times involved is mind stretching.

Stars come and go, leave behind their matter and energy. The matter goes on to form other things, including life in some rare and special cases; like us.

We are here for a blink in that time, and go on to who knows what, different people and philosophies have different theories.

But like the stars we leave behind the matter we are composed on, and over time it should find its way into other things, new life forms possibly also.

Interestingly, the heaviest elements, like gold and others, are only formed in the moment a star physically dies -- it takes that collapse and explosion in the Nova to squeeze together lighter elements previously formed into the heavier ones.

@jookia @_lunawinters The text ones are faster, I tend to use them more when writing letters (in the nice Slowly app for penpals) since it's fast and doesn't break the flow of writing.

Sometimes I would go and sprinkle a few emoji, maybe even replacing the earlier placed text ones. But that was for the most special, closest friends, otherwise I would just send and go on to another reply.

Here the delay to find an emoji is not too bad, on twitter it takes ages to load.

@Samirr@mastodon.social @Full_marx @freemo You are very welcome!

A suggestion, maybe in the future when you feel more confident, explore around and see the different instances. There might be one where you feel more at home, with a theme more aligned with your interests, etc.

There are many, many servers/instances to consider.

@Surasanji @shibaprasad Yes, true, it's just another example of concepts that are difficult to understand and accept. Einstein apparently had a hard time accepting Quantum theory too, I find that comforting.

@Full_marx @Samirr@mastodon.social @freemo Hi Samir and welcome. 😄

I find the web browser view quite nice and comfortable if reading and posting in my laptop. There's some wasted space at the edges, but it doesn't overwhelm the senses, and it's logical once you understand the basic ideas.

There are three main "feeds" to look at. The Local one is on your home instance/server. All public posts made there show in that list.

In your current instance it must be massive with so many users registered.

Then there's the busier "Home" feed, which starts pretty empty. Everyone's home feed is different -- it shows any posts made or boosted by the people you follow.

Adding people to follow is important, as it adds content to explore, and sometimes you will be surprised by lots of new things. Like me this morning, didn't even sit for breakfast yet, since we have a lively time in our instance at the moment.

Grabbed a coffee and been here for over an hour replying and looking things up! 😄

If you are using a mobile for access -- I found Tusky for Android really nice, and thats a big compliment sicne I would rather use a laptop/desktop for any serious work.

Stick around and ask questions, we are all learning together. Been here less than a week, it's so addictive. 😏

@Full_marx @freemo OMG, I can imagine!!

The effect will stay around long if we get into this mental agitated state. I am afraid it might really make any focusing difficult or impossible.

I could never stay in twitter long for that reason alone (without even mentioning the possible clash with unpleasant folks). Dipped in a bit, and then on to other pastures.

I found it a lot harder to focus and read the in depth articles in my favourite places like The Guardian, The Atlantic, New Yorker, after too long in the short span threadmill.

@freemo @Karthikdeva And then I think, this might be mental preparing and training for an upcoming new time?

Love the genre.

@freemo I am glad that mastodon.social is waay down on the list, they don't need more users. 400 thousand in one instance?? OMG.

Twitter-2.0. 😃

Their live local feed looks really stange in that tiled format. I prefer the vertical flowing one we have here.
