Had a good chuckle with the part about the system admin going to be rich, poor dr Freemo. He's not even charging anyone for server costs, which some places do via paypal or other means.

I found my way to the fediverse and qoto just a week ago, based on a nice BBC news item talking about that migration -- which showed up on my twitter feed.

Read it, and went investigating, liked what I found.

A week later, I am close to 500 posts already.

@freemo @_lunawinters like freemo mentioned. The Rose might be a big flower and have lots of humidity ,so make sure the book is not a nice or valuable one. Also might try with a smaller branch or flower first.

@Full_marx The bot accounts I have seen in fediverse so far have always been labelled clearly as bots. And on some systems, including qoto, bot accounts are acceptable only if they behave in certain, prescribed ways.

Here at qoto, they must post as "Unlisted" only, although we seem to have one bot that posts to the local timeline pretty widely.

Could an AI pass as a human, that would be the Turing test moment. I think they soon will.

@raining_night That is a common thing, RN. You will need to think about it and discover the best way to proceed, I think it's part of our learning on the job.

Always lots of internal politics, sometimes backstabbing too. Being good or the best at something doesn't guarantee the person will be successful.

@freemo @jump_spider Thanks for posting, I just finished reading the Discourse message and the blog post.

Blog post looks good, but I would suggest that if you are writing for a lay person, you would need more on the introduction, before you jump into the keys, and more complex details.

I would suggest a backgrounder on how crypto has been used since Antiquity, one of the most used methods for a long time was called Cesar's if my memory doesn't fail me. I love history and have a good book with stories about the different methods people developed over time to secure communications, it's fascinating.

To relate to the common user, again, you could bring in that communications on the web can (and should) be using encrypted messages, without any special effort from the user, and show some snapshots of the locks on the browser location box.

And maybe talk about instant messengers, and the different approaches they take to handle securing these communications (again, effortless to the user).

Best to keep it open, possibly. Either way, it's very unusual how open the process of staff selection is here. Very democratic.

@shibaprasad I am glad to see it, had read an article about the rumours of it coming out, and the author was suspicious.

Since having been bought out, and resold a couple of times, Motorola mobile division was only making mid range cost phones, no flagships.

This will piss off the larger players, and likely be a nice alternative. Go Moto!

Which is an interesting read; there was a recent TV series about one of the American rocketry pioneers that was a part of the order, and really interesting show. Bad memory for titles, can't recall the show's name.
