The tower stood on a lonely mountaintop, far from town and city. One morning, a knight seeking adventure knocked on its door.
"Is this the lair of an evil sorcerer, or prison of a trapped princess?" he demanded.
Eventually, a tired voice called out.
"This is an observatory."

The F35 is a hugely costly and their most up to date fighter. To lose its stealth capabilities is a major coup against the programme. Various countries had been involved in supporting and ordering the planes, the cost is so high that the US administration did not want to fund it alone.
The F21 must be an older gen aircraft, that they don't mind as much losing some stealth on. Foreign sales help keep factories churning and well paid employment at home.

great quote.
It's Follow on Friday, aka #FF
A good day to discover accounts to follow and learn, get entertained or engage in good discussions.
Searching for the #FF hash also helps find these posts, last week there were many and I added a number of interesting people to my list.
Any you suggest?
Cory Doctorow is a great SciFi writer, blogs at https://boingboing.net/ and is active on twitter and Fediverse as well. @doctorow
See his books and maybe get a free ebook copy to read at his site: http://craphound.com/
One of his book's free download pages, (there are others for many of them) : https://craphound.com/homeland/download/
@shibaprasad There's a triving community of expats, digital nomads relocated in Lisbon from other higher cost European cities like Berlin, London, Paris.
And Lisbon is lovely, a small capital by European standards, nice climate and beside a gorgeous river.
Retired people and investors are flocking in too, some Brits sell their places and just drive there with a van load of stuff or a caravan/motor home to stay for good.
If they sold property at home country, they can repurchase, better prop for lower costs.
And enjoy the 3,000 hours of sunshine per year that the southern Algarve coast area gets. 😉 🍷
@shibaprasad About two months per year, I would say. Travelled there on the Spring for the last 3 years, fell in love and really should do the big move, apply for Residency visa and live there full time.
Much happier when I am there, Europe is lovely.
Residency visa for Portugal is easy to apply for for retired people like myself, or entrepreneurs, just follow the requirements and you get it.
@Gadgetsinshorts @raining_night Welcome to Qoto, GI.
The verified tick is something anyone who wants can have; its simply an amoji code (any emoji is acceptable) added at the end of your user name in Settings.
That one is named verified. enclose the word in ":" colon marks, no spaces, and you get :verified:
Warning, this is seen in a somewhat unflattering way in the fediverse; many people think it brings the hint of celeb culture from the big networks.
I used the unverified emoji tag for a couple days instead
and soon removed it.
But you are free to use it if you like, or any other supported emoji.
@shibaprasad Delta is the Best. I remember having one particularly delicious one at a small café in Lisboa, near the Anjos (Angels) Metro station.
The owner operated the place, and when I commented on how good it was, he mentioned he only used the very best coffee - and pointed to the bags of Delta Gold label, which he said are their finest one.
20 Euros or 25 USD for a kilo, so it's not something I buy for regular use, but in Portugal you can have delicious coffee everywhere, for very reasonable costs.
I love the country!
Pretty cheap compared to a Canada Post international mail letter which is over one dollar (it's been ages I haven't sent one) each.
The slowly stamps are decorative, reusable ad infinitum, and just plain fun. Great app!
endorsement, not advertisement
What type you like? #slowly brewed coffee. Larger is better, longer lasting.
Ah, use the right Stamp in that penpal letter, via @slowlyapp@twitter.com "Slowly" app? Currently on Sale, 20% off. 80 coins, about 2 CAD for the 6 stamp set. Regular, 100 as shown.
@_lunawinters Very true, the largest emmiters soon will be China and India.
We just got carbon taxes implemented here in Canada, my latest natural gas bill shows it at about 1/3 of the cost of gas supply cost -- which is an Essential, live support need during the cold winters in the Northern hemisphere.
And it will go up year by year. Tempting to think about getting a small rural place with a wood lot for heating fuel source.
Best coffees I have ever had, are in Portugal.
Delta is my favourite Brand - look for the name and logo at the awnings in front of cafés all over the country.
"Uma bica, por favor." gets you this nice espresso cup. Cost? from about 50 Euro cents.
** STAY AWAY from tourist trap areas and you get great food for low prices in the whole country.
@_lunawinters Not sure what AQI is, Aaditi. Explain?
Oooh. Early morning troubles. Air Quality Index, says addled brain befpre Bing lookup. 😏
Air quality here in Niagara region is quite good. I am in the middle of the Niagara Peninsula, there's agricultural land in many directions, I love riding my bikes on the small, quiet roads.
50 K people only on my city. 450 K in the whole Niagara region, which is fairly large area. Closest smoggy place is the Greater Toronto Area, GTA. Maybe about 5 million pop there.
All of Canada is only about 37 mil, so it boggles my mind how many people live in #India, and the magnitude of the challenges you all face.
How to order a Coffee in Lisbon, or whole of Portugal too.
In the picture, an Abatanado, which is my favourite style.
Drink it #slowly, savour the Pasteis de Nata (tarts to die for) and read your penpals letters in @slowlyapp
on a sunny morning. <3 PT

@mngrif Food post and NO photo?
Tsk, tsk, tsk.... 😈
j/k
What about the coffee, what kind? Love it too. Espresso, or the longer extract, longer lasting one, larger mug "Americano".
Don't like the name, but it gives me a longer pleasure cup. In Portugal, land of the best coffee I know, there's a name to order it so.
"Um Abatanado, por favor."
Found a nice page with this quote:
"Um Abatanado
Served in a 6 oz cup, it’s made like an espresso but allowed to run long to extract heaps of earthy goodness from the beans. If you’re looking for a creamy smooth texture, this may not be your desired coffee, but perfect for those who adore the flavor with a touch less viscosity."
