And here's a reason why using Twitter sometimes pays -- not only we can find good content, not available in the unless we bridge it, but also -- viral distribution. And these great stats tools for any of our tweets.

Kudos to Jack Dorsey and Co.

Wow, my tweet on China sending 100,000 ducks 🦆 to Pakistan to control locust swarm has generated more than 500,000 impressions!

Sounds like a wonderful idea. How much pesticide would you need to control swarms of locusts? They are raging in and devastating crops there too.

China may send 100,000 ducks to Pakistan to battle locust swarms. Pakistan has declared an emergency saying locust numbers were the worst in more than two decades. A single duck can eat more than 200 locusts a day, more effective than pesticides: expert

The upgrade installation is very easy for any average user – you just need to download a small program from Microsoft, which will check your system for compatibility. Download the install program from this page.

microsoft.com/software-downloa

The page has some explanations and tips, you can read those — or simply get the install tool directly from Microsoft Servers.

* Window 10 FREE upgrade for Windows 7 or 8 Registered users ! *

Microsoft is still allowing Windows 7 and 8.x users to upgrade their systems (which must be activated) for __*FREE*__ to a Windows 10 of the same family.

Someone running Windows 7 Home, Home Premium or Ultimate can go thru it, and have a legal and Activated Windows 10 Home digital license at the end. A Windows 7 or 8 Pro install will upgrade to a Windows 10 Professional, fully licensed.

I have done it, twice, in recent days. And it's EASY, anyone can do it.

Also from The Desk -- the surprisingly flexible layout possible.

A two panel with a live Feed and a narrower Notifications looks like a great way to use a mastodon or fedi client. The Desk is so full of controls and options that you need time to experiment with and discover, try things.

Interesting client. Found as listed on joinmastodon.org Clients page. joinmastodon.org/apps

Delete unwanted Notifications in Web client. Please?

A simple request and easy to implement feature. Much appreciated when hell threads include your attrib username in them.

I found some outstanding work on the Japanese 'The Desk' client, including a real time filter capable of changing Notifications pending on the fly.

That could possible complement my usual New User welcome message with important Guides links -- for someone who wants to understand what this new place is.

I loved the Guide on the first link, and it's still current and awesome 3 years after publishing.

Hello, and welcome to Qoto.

Enjoy the network and all it has to offer. If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

We also have another new users guide, posted here : write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggesti

** Clean Up proposal - Removing old, never active accounts **

For purpose of internal discussion and to gauge people's opinions, I am opening a discussion topic on this subject -- here, in Public.

I had very recently brought this up internally, in a Staff only area (essential for sensitive discussions, and common in all internet sites).

The image included in this post is a snapshot of my post there - - which looks much nicer than it could ever be here (until we get better, enhanced text format supported).

This idea was motivated by my belief this deserves attention, and by a very recent post by Paul Sutton -- asking what the meaning of 'active'users is on the server stats displayed at the front doors.

My post follows, in Text form. Look forward to your comments, suggestions and participation. Thank you.

---------------------------------------------
A pet peeve of mine.

I would have done it myself. Proposing here for discussion and possible action.

* that long term, never active accounts represent a Zero value added to instance.
* that such accounts can be dormant ones for video sharing people, as we had before
* that high number of users doesn’t really matter, this is my personal opinion.

I propose that :sparkler:

* inactive accounts, zero posts ever, older than a certain threshold, be eliminated.

A report from the admin panel could provide some stats on how many those would be

The threshold I would suggest – one year and older, inactive, Nuke applied.

Thank you.

Testing new software is always fun (as long as it's something I am interested in).

Had tried months ago, and back looking at a Japanese fediverse client called The Desk.

Interesting, many, many controls and options. And it can run in similar mode to my tweaked AWI full screen setup.

The Desk is a separate app, not a browser or web site you open.

Find it at : thedesk.top/en

Mobile users who would like to consider a new fediverse client now have a new option.

I have seen, used and mentioned here the Husky client, a fork of the popular Tusky mastodon client, which is being developed by a1batross, the admin at Expired.Mentality.RIP.

Husky extends the Tusky features and was intended to offer support to controls you have on a Pleroma instance - - quite interesting, including optional Subject lines, Reactions (like on FB), and fancy text formatting.

NO other mobile client supported that yet, which is why he started this. Now I just found out that another fellow instance admin has taken Husky and created her own fork.

Meet Koyu.Space client, ready and on the Google Play store for your Android devices.

Here : play.google.com/store/apps/det

Congratulations to both @a1batross and @koyu@koyu.space

Great work. Thumbs up, thank you both.

...which surprisingly -- unexpected -- still displays the link without naked URLs.

That is pretty neat, and only happens if the post was created in a remote instance with support for the more advanced formatting.

Mastodon ignores Bold, Italic and other text enhancements; But does keep the link URL hidded as intended. A compromise, we show their stuff, so not to break it.

Good to know, and useful as long as the origin of the post can accept the MD code.

* MicroBlog is frequently used to refer to shorter posts and content. Probably originated in Twitter, this expression is also commonly used by fedi developers.

One liner cryptic thingies, really not my thing, I wouldn't even say the word belongs.

But I made a post this morning that I do believe would be a real MicroBlog -- formatted and without unsightly naked URL links (kilometers long sometimes)

Saved a Screenshot to post here -- as it's formatting doesn't display well in plain Mastodon instances.

Screen as seen at the GlitchSocial instance where the post was made, rendered here via Pinafore client.

will get it too :blobsmilehappyeyes:

Oh, geez. I think my report of "the bug is gone!" was premature.

Full backup, new Windows 2004 install, and the system is lovely, fast, pleasure.

But --- oh oh. Overlapping images are Baaack.

@Sphinx @freemo , FYI, as I am thinking it might be browser related. And I couldn't try in MS Edge, as the add on is required, a FF native one.

Will report if I get any more findings.
