Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.
@digital_carver there is a good how-to how to setup it https://docs.joinbookwyrm.com/install-prod.html
but I didn't find time to follow it yet.
Would you like to? To check which side is faulty ?
@digital_carver Yeah, it's simple to describe.
- Half of the time I get 504 Gateway Timeout.
- I don't see posts about books on another activity pub servers
- Sometimes I can't post review or import book with no reason.
That's I call unusable.
The idea of bookwyrm software is pretty good.
Something focused on books is something I definitely like to have in my toolbox.
Unfortunately, two days of playing with https://bookwyrm.social/ made a very negative impression on me.
I have no idea are those problems just instance related, or soft related, but it's pretty unusable.
@mchonedev @neurobongo isn't it just perl (deep inside)
Years ago, Pew Research Center identified 6 types of Twitter conversation networks. How many are common on Mastodon?
Definitely #2 (unified, tight networks), maybe #3 (fragmented networks united by hashtags on popular topics).

“I think we [journalists] got lazy as a field, and we let Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, and, god help us, Elon Musk and their staff decide all these major journalistic questions.”
I couldn’t agree more with journalist @adamdavidson in this thoughtful and reflective Q&A about joining #Mastodon

Explanation of a fun Steam bug that causes Steam to pick a pseudo-random font for everything:

Super funny, I woke up inspired to write something today. 🤔
I'm going to write a post about the basics of smart contracts, writing them, and using #golang to build app and write tests.
I had some fun today with connecting toots to telegram channel.
It's pretty easy from mastodon side and I have to give credit to mastodon for that!
I am not convinced that I will keep this in production, since I don't really need this.
I did it using https://github.com/littlebear0729/Mastodon2TG as a reference code, btw.
Just for fun I'd like to repeat this with #rust.
Going to try tungstenite crate.
@derek I think it must be provoked by localization model.
There is exactly one thing that is regrettable about mastodon.
It's all those endless conversation about mastodon.
Daily in timeline:
- A few hundreds of short how-to's "how to post in mastodon";
- Tens articles "what is different about mastodon vs something";
- A few attempts to enforce some rules like: "YOU MUST USE CW WHEN I PERSONALLY WANT IT FROM YOU" and other virtue signalling.
The rest is "why twitter is worse".
And there is no any trend of reducing this.
God gave us strengths to survive this period.
@trinsec The same as every one, I believe.
That the nation choose a random guy who is going to overuse the power for their sake.
@skanman Not necessarily rust is with future.
Node will be here for a long time, I bet.
