There's so much more to this too. Like, I have so much more time and space to consider these things. I mend clothes, when I can. I fix electronics. Part of that is having the privilege (of time) to be able to do that. How many things are broken, wasted, whatever because of all this pressure on people?

It makes the waste of the ultra rich even more stark. They have the time, the privilege, to not waste. They have the capacity to reduce their impact more than any of us, and yet they choose to use more than all of us.

“Silicon Valley isn’t building apps anymore. It’s building empires. Under the banner of "patriotic tech", this new bloc is building the infrastructure of control—clouds, AI, finance, drones, satellites—an integrated system we call the Authoritarian Stack. (…) these firms now operate as state-like powers—writing the rules, winning the tenders, and exporting their model to Europe, where it poses a direct challenge to democratic governance.”

@futuresprog @Gigi Wasn't sure I'd want or trust the Google link-checking feature as below:

"On December 20, 2018, Mozilla announced that Firefox Focus now checks all URLs against the Google Safe Browsing service to help prevent people from accessing fraudulent sites."

Not all Trans are the same group + We will build something better than Capitalism... #Quote

"Remember: not all trans people are alike, the exact same way that not all members of ANY group are alike. That's why it would be a 'group' and not 'exact clones'. Yes, even identical twins are not completely identical in every way, cool and personally unique though they are in other ways (like us all!)

No one is more important than anyone else. You're allowed to experiment. You're allowed to stay with what you feel comfortable. You need to notice harm to others and yourself. You need to care AND rest. We will build something better after capitalism.
I love you."

@MxVerda Good to be straight
Was a bit of a confusion as a first post and 2nd line to try work out what "Your child is not your emotional dildo. " and seems a bit inappropriate to have those words together (don't liek the word inappropriate to say it to others but seems right here if I need to work out subject and why dildo is there),

Ok just saying but seems right that you can use another metaphor that doesn't need working out itself so early what you mean and what topic is about - children, emotions, dildos? Take a few seconds which could be avoided perhaps by saying ""You child is not you emotional crutch / fixation etc"

#Browser #Security How to start Firefox in private mode by default?

:firefox: How to start Mozilla Firefox in private mode by default?

Method 1

Open Firefox
Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter, continue if your browser asks you to confirm
A search bar will appear, type:
browser.privatebrowsing.autostart
Double-click on it to toggle the value to "true"
Restart Firefox to apply your new settings

Method 2

Open Firefox
Go to the Menu icon on the top right of the screen
Click on Settings
Click on Privacy & Security on the right panel
Go to the History section, and select "Use custom settings for history" for the "Firefox will" item.
Check the Always use private browsing mode checkbox
Restart Firefox

Firefox will now auto-start in the private browsing mode, meaning that your browsing history, download history, searches, and form history will not be saved.

Why this is important (both links in same thread)

kolektiva.social/@Gigi/1142692

bananachips.club/@nev/11426939

On my phone I use Firefox Focus.

No tabs. No bookmarks. Deletes all cookies and history when you close it.

On the rare occasion I need to stay logged in I can use another browser. I use another browser once a month at best.

@Gigi

My god, I just realized one of the simplest opsec things you can do (something I've been doing for years and don't even think about anymore) is set your browsers to open links in private/secure instances AS A DEFAULT.

If it needs to be opened in a window that you want to keep open or bookmark, you can always manually copy and paste it.

It makes no sense to be using a secure shared tool like cryptpad, if you're just gonna open it where you're logged in as you.

Remember the #SocialEngineering motto:
If there are people, there are security holes.

#ActivistResouces #OPSEC #BestPractices

@Gigi on Firefox Android, which I use, you can set it to open links in Private Browser Mode automatically, and there's a menu button for "open in regular tab".

Side note, speaking of opsec, in another conversation someone just mentioned that time the FBI raided an admin's house and got the Kolektiva database because they had the whole thing just downloaded

Both styles of post worked! :)
Anyway let me know if you want to audio chat about or anything in regards to and doing our own - because nobody else is going to care / do it for us, right?

Gender etc quotes... "The problem isn’t people; it’s the linguistic furniture we inherited."...

@microglyphics picked around and related topics:

"The core lesson is epistemic, not biological."

"The problem isn’t people; it’s the linguistic furniture we inherited."

More quoted below:
==================

"This isn’t a matter of sex or gender, though that’s how the names have been filed. The core lesson is epistemic, not biological. Feminist philosophy re-centres care, interdependence, and the politics of maintenance, not as sentimental virtues but as systems logic. The post-colonialists do the same at a geopolitical scale: maintenance instead of conquest, relation instead of domination.

On Gender, Behaviour, and the Lazy Binary

I don’t buy into sex and gender binaries, especially regarding behaviour. Even in biology, the dichotomy frays under scrutiny.
Behaviourally, it collapses entirely.

The problem isn’t people; it’s the linguistic furniture we inherited."
