Well, finally after all these years, someone's got an intuitive explanation of the moves required for Rubik's cube!

Thorny oysters (family Spondylidae) are more closely related to scallops, but resemble oysters in many ways due to a shared lifestyle of living cemented to surfaces. The shell spines they have are a defensive adaptation to make it harder for shell drilling/peeling/crushing shells to access their shells. The spines also attract other life forms (epibionts) to live on their shells, which serve as camouflage! #ClamFacts
Well done comrades 👏

I love when I can get a heron to fill the frame. My #nikon AF-S 300/4 continually punches above its weight.

So Saturn has this moon Iapetus. Besides being a really fun word to say, this moon is pretty cool. And not only because it's made primarily out of ice. It has a striking appearance with the leading hemisphere taking a reddish-brownish coloring; the rest is icy white.
But it gets better... Iapetus has this weird equatorial ridge, 1,300km long and up to 13km high. No idea how they got there!

Consider that it is generally well-accepted that a well-run instance should mark bot accounts as such. Should accounts representing a group of people rather than a single individual be marked in some analogous way? What sort of relationships and funding mechanisms should be allowed/disclosed between large corporations, influencers and instances?
Accounts representing companies have started to be created. Some were created a few weeks ago (maybe others even longer) like @Raspberry_Pi

#moderators
It is time to start thinking about instance moderation and what moderation looks like for group accounts and corporate-owned accounts. I doubt the answers will be the same in all parts of the Fediverse. 🍿
I've held back long enough. It is time to share an excellent video of throat singing from Aryuna Nimaeva.
There was no treatment for this at the time, so Pulaski’s parents would have been able to decide if he should be raised male or female. As a woman, he would have a hard time marrying and having children, but as a man, he could have an outstanding military career, and no one would ever know.
At least until 2019.
More about Pulaski in my post here:

This silver watch case is shaped like a skull - the jaw hinges down to reveal the dial. The skull is decorated with a floral pattern and a scene on the forehead featuring Adam and Eve with the snake. 17th cent. Look closely at the center of this image. You probably noticed the bright spot in the center, the central protostar. But did you notice the dark band in front of it? That’s the protostar’s accretion disk, created as material swirls around it.
The material within this disk can sometimes clump up, forming the beginnings of planets. But the protostar will absorb many of these before they can mature.

UC grad student strike
Tens of thousands of grad students, postdocs and other academic workers are striking, including at my PhD alma mater, UCSC. They want higher pay because the rent is too damn high and they don't make enough to cover it. 90 percent of academic student employees and over 70 percent postdocs are rent-burdened. I was one of them. I stand with these folks in their effort to get paid a fair wage!
