'Our study found that, among individuals recently infected with SARS-CoV-2, those who were fully vaccinated had lower concentrations of almost all cytokines and chemokines than those who were unvaccinated in the short-term and long-term after symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection.'

@cyrilpedia What does that mean exactly? With my limited knowledge, what I understand from that quote is that fully vaccinated people are left with a compromised immune system.

@josemanuel This most likely means the opposite - these prolonged responses in the non vaccinated are not good for the host. One goal of vaccination is either to prevent infection (which for the subjects of this study is not the case, as it deals exclusively with those who had infections in both groups - not that this *not* mean that the overall rate of infection is the same in vaccinated and unvaccinated).

A separate goal of vaccination is to have fast, specific immune responses that do as little collateral damage as possible (which in practice means lower inflammation, lower levels of the immune signalling molecules measured in this paper, and a shorter duration of response).
