'The above-mentioned experiment, undertaken by Sherlock Holmes, was based on the work of early forensic expert Robert Christison, who became Chair of Medical Jurisprudence (now called Forensic Medicine) in 1822. He was one of the first toxicology experts and was such a reliable medical witness in court that he became the Crown Witness for the prosecution for nearly 33 years. His discovery of post-mortem bruising occurred during his investigation into one of the most famous serial murder cases in history.'

The magical Stones of Stenness circle and henge on Orkney's West Mainland, with the mountains of Hoy in the distance. The stones you see today are part of a ring of 12 tall stones and a surrounding ditch from between 3000BC and 2500BC. Should've probably shared this earlier, but I pretty much forgot. In December, we'll do a little #ScienceAdvent challenge. We've come up with 20 science-related prompts and every day we will share our neuroscience take on one of them. If you'd like to join in as well and share cool stuff from your field, here are the prompts: https://neurofrontiers.blog/science-advent-a-journey-through-science/
Don't forget to use the hashtag #ScienceAdvent.
The first prompt is "A scientist you admire". We picked a true legend in neuroscience: Brenda Milner. Here's our take on it: https://neurofrontiers.blog/brenda-milner-the-neuroscientist-to-admire/
Looking forward to learning about awesome scientists from other fields!

I think we are heading to a potential catastrophe for the disabled community, and I do not use those words lightly.
Rather than having any future financial goals, I’m focused on trying to stay healthy. I want to be able to charge up my powered wheelchair and continue to be able to use my CPAP machine in bed at night.

Cost of living crisis
I am so tired of people talking about how the UK is one of the wealthiest countries in the world when they say nothing about its levels of inequality. What is the point of being a rich country when you have so many people unable to afford to live?

It's painful and stupid that in base 10 and more you are expected to use letters instead of inventing new numbers to make it easier to work with #xp
@donmelton Agreed. My personal policy is that I will favorite RTs, but never boost them.
If they go to the trouble of copy/pasting and add a link, then I will boost.
The point is to engage here on Mastodon, not just to lazily RT from the Twit
Combine prismatic window foil, a sunny spot on the sofa, lucky timing, and this fluffy bugger. Voilà - Rainbow Cat.

A decade ago, this image went mega-viral on Google+. In the ensuing years, it has been adapted and reused thousands of times.

@kityates I find it particularly galling that he comes across as clearly intelligent in the celebrity show, and yet has apparently chosen not to apply that intelligence for the good of the country as a politician.
@paul_briley @KimSJ @LCNMUK Serious question - how is it possible to "try" those things? Do I go to a GP and ask for them ....? I just can't imagine doing that and getting a positive response!
