The upper ocean heat content (0-700 m) is just as striking and rising well above the graph's upper limits for the 2022 annual update...

RT @Climatologist49
How did this winter's precipitation compare to the recent historical record? Areas in dark blue had a top 5 wettest winter. Locations in green had the wettest winter on record according to the Prism data set. That's a lot of green.

Nice talk today at our colloquium by @OceanAndClimate on a new marine ¹⁴C compilation over the last deglaciation that reinforces evidence for slower ocean overturning and older ventilation timescales during the last glacial maximum.

A very interesting study with important paleoceanographic implications out by Jess Conroy and colleagues on how surface-ocean δ¹⁸O in the Galápagos is driven by the velocity of Equatorial Undercurrent waters: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.co

They found a rock that fell from space.

This team tracked a #meteorite as it entered our atmosphere and then went and recovered it.

Amazing achievement.

The name Margaret comes from the Greek margaritari, which means pearl. Margaritari is a loan word from ancient Iranian (marγārt, now morvārīd). This is probably because pearl diving is an ancient art in the Persian Gulf going back 1000s of years!
One of the most commonly harvested pearl oysters has the scientific name Pinctada margaritifera in honor of this history.
So this was a long-winded way of saying that if your name's Margaret, your daemon is an oyster! #clamFacts

Did you know that the USGS will be looking for 5 regional directors and 3 deputy directors for the Climate Adaptation Science Centers? Keep track of this page for the official announcements on USA Jobs. Apparently the openings may close quickly, but these sound like great jobs for those looking to make a real difference on a large scale.
