Hi all 👋 ,
I'm Tamas and I'm a PhD student @ UCSF working on cell volume regulation during neutrophil migration. I like questions related to the biophysical properties of cells. What are the physical limits of cell shape changes? What constraints are cells facing when moving?
I like to use #microscopy 🔬 and genetics to answer these questions with some #optogenetics 🔦 to be fancy.
I also maintain some #julialang packages that I've developed along the way.

Recently I've been thinking about popular narratives about AI, and how to (re)frame people's ways of thinking about ethics in AI/ML. I also think a lot about datasets, particularly wrt classificatory systems and data labor. I'm a swe by training, so I also spend a good amount of my time data engineering (and slowly learning frontend).

@derickflorian I looked at some of these! They come in more exciting colors than the ones I tried. Will consider! I have a guerilla art project in mind that requires dry-erase markers.
I've been on a low-effort, low-stakes quest to find whiteboard markers that aren't disappointing. So far, the Chisel-Tip Pentel Markathon Pump Dry Erase Markers are doing well. I've been using them for over a month with no frustration. Tentative recommendation.

@mishaahrens @albertcardona @PessoaBrain Interesting! I played with one of these today when I walked by. They're interactive with touch screens. You can be like a TV weatherman and expand areas, play videos, which is pretty fun, but means they can't be *that* high up.

@albertcardona @PessoaBrain Ya, I'm in Virginia USA. We will see how it goes! It is clear that no one would ever come up with this idea from scratch, but I think it went from paper posters, to virtual poster sessions where presenters gave short talks then answered questions at like 30-min intervals (these were the highlights of the HHMI meetings for me), to this as they try to bring what worked well virtually to an in-person meeting. When I was a postdoc, people would attach tablets to their posters at CV conferences to show videos.
