Google's war on ad-blockers continues! Google will slow down the update process for third-party extensions by requiring them to be reviewed by the Chrome Web Store. 🚫

This means YouTube can counter ad-blockers while slowing their release of workarounds. 🤢

This David and Goliath situation looks to be even more unbalanced than previously thought.

#AlGore has had enough of #COP28: "This industry is way more effective at capturing politicians than they are at capturing emissions," Gore told Reuters on the sidelines of the COP28 summit in Dubai. "And they have captured the COP process itself now and overreached, abusing the public's trust by naming the CEO of one of the largest and least responsible oil companies in the world as head of the COP." commondreams.org/news/al-gore-

Indigenous philosophy is so enriching!

Studying my own Quechua and Aymara philosophies along with Mexica-Aztec, Lakotah, Haudenosaunee, Mapuche, Mayan, Anishinaabe, Kolla, reindigenized Mestizo, Misak, Taíno philosophies makes me realize we had a cornecopia of cultural richness and intelligence.

But, all of them have 2 things in common, a care for the land and struggle for liberation. Only the terminology and ceremonies are different! 🌎

Incan-Andean and Aztec philosophers alike believe in balance between extremes. In Quechua it is called yanantin. In Nahuatl, it's ometecuhtli-omecihuatl. And, both teach that ethics creates philosophy, not the reverse. Andean philosopher Hugo Chacón writes

“Being is explained as associative renewal, one works their individuality and independence from the profundity of human associations… Andean being is unintelligible without gatherings”.

My latest just out today in @sciencemagazine: "The costs of “costless” climate mitigation," joint with Matt Kotchen & James Rising.

IPCC, McKinsey, energy-systems models & climate-economic ones have quite a bit of disagreement around what it costs to cut emissions.

The biggest disagreement: how much of it is free, and what does "free" mean.

Or more to the point, what does it take to get the free stuff actually done. (Hint: It takes policy.)

The most difficult and challenging social problems to 'solve' are not solved with tech. They are never really 'solved', but can only be improved, and even then only with compassionate effort.

Mastodon, we wrote this because we love you and care about you. People have been saying a lot of things, and we need to get the facts right.

“Since the Hamas murders of October 7, heavily armed Israeli settlers have carried out hundreds of attacks—“beating people; breaking anything breakable; stealing; torching cars and homes; destroying food, water tanks, and solar panels; and shooting in the air—and sometimes not in the air”—against Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills and the Jordan Valley, often with the tacit or explicit support of the Israeli army and police.”

“Boreal #forests’ northward advance has been spotty and slower than expected. Meanwhile, their southern retreat has been faster than scientists predicted.

As scholars who study northern ecosystems, forests and wetlands, we see concerning evidence that as the world warms, its largest forest wilderness appears to be shrinking.”

What you get is a non-orientable puzzle. Just like the Klein bottle has no inside or outside, the puzzle has no top or bottom. Pieces from the left flip over and connect to the right. We put an image from the Hubble space telescope on it and dubbed it the "Infinite Galaxy Puzzle". It is a double sided puzzle that makes a continuous image from the top to the bottom and every time you assemble it, you see a different part of the Milky Way galaxy.

Well-funded groups connected to the conservative Club for Growth have been spending millions this year to attack Donald Trump — while simultaneously running ads touting their endorsed GOP candidates' ties to Trump.
