I love all the patterns pigeon's feathers can have. Specially rock pigeons. So many different colors, so many different layers. All of them so lovely on their own by their own personality and beautiful self. 😭

Presenting you from pigeons Across the globe
1. Nicobar Pigeon (from the Islands of Andaman and Nicobar of India)
2. Brown Frillback Pigeon
3. Bronzewing Pigeon (Australia)

@mur2501 I've already heard of the Nicobar pigeon, but for real tho, aren't they such special and beautiful living beings?! 😍

@Defectivetrxgedy
Nicobar pigeons are the only living member of their genus Caloenas.
Also they are the closest relatives of the extinct Dodo and the Rodriguez Solitaire

@mur2501 I suppose they are a protected species?

The infos you're giving me here are so cool, I'll look it up a bit more because I want to know more 😍

@Defectivetrxgedy
Well technically in India all pigeon species are protected as they are culturally significant but this doesn't extends to actual protection of them atleast outside sanctuaries. Nicobar pigeons are hunted for food and a their stomach stones are popular in jewelry. Though the main threat is the destruction of habitat which was accelerated especially after the 2004 Indian ocean tsunami.

Frillbacks are not natural
They are selectively bred pigeons for the pet market

@mur2501 I've seen breeders with pigeons that are too not natural, like selectively bred for beauty competitions and stuff. And I find it quite ridiculous. A pigeon doesn't have to be fluffy, camarel-ish, not-like-feral-pigeons-looking to be beautiful. Every pigeon is beautiful. 😭

We need to let them be.

@mur2501 just discovered this beauty.

They are called red-bellied fruit-dove and they are from New Caledonia.

If they aren't also beautiful.
I'm still amazing how many colors patterns we can find in the animal kingdom. 😭

The red-bellied fruit dove is overall green, but has a purplish-red crown and patch on the central belly. Adults both male and female are very similar, although the belly patch is slightly smaller in the female. Juveniles essentially lack the pinkish-red patch on the belly and crown, leading to potential confusion with the Tanna fruit dove.
