@ifixcoinops The other big effect is computer software being copyrightable. In the 1970s, no one knew if computer code could be copyrighted, but in the 1980s that became an issue. The courts looked back at the player piano situation: a player piano roll isn't that different than punch cards for a computer, a set of instructions for a machine to follow. And if a player piano roll falls under the 1909 copyright law, so does computer code.
So all software licensing also comes out of player pianos.

@Hex @polymerwitch You raise some valid points.
Vaccines are free (and at some point you could get paid to take one) in the US, but poorer countries couldn't get them. If they were free to the world, we might be done with this by now.
I'm not sure abut the people who distrust masks. Many of them are perfectly happy with Trump's attempted coup. They also don't trust vaccines, when the problem is that there aren't enough vaccines in arms.
Be mad about any corruption or incompetence, but we *do* each need everyone to take the personal responsibility to get vaccinated and wear a mask. It's the only way to stop the virus. Climate change, where some people emit vastly more carbon than others, is a different story.
The best part of the Day the Earth Stood Still / RRR crossover is the "Klaatu Klaatu" dance number.
@polymerwitch What "systemic change" is more effective than masks? The pandemic, unlike climate change, doesn't feel like something the powerful did to us to make money.

There ARE vaccines available for dogs.

This is interesting because we so often hear about industry developing boner pills for rich white men rather than curing, e.g., malaria.
