There are many legitimate reasons to track Elon Musk's flight coordinates, for example to offer him ads more relevant to his interests

Being blocked from posting a link from a competing social media site may not quite be an antitrust violation but it sure rhymes

@alexwild If the goal was to neutralize one of the few mainstream platforms for populist expression, he’s clearly succeeding.

My grad students designed real t-shirts for our fictional intramural team, The Hydras (symbolizing interdisciplinarity, and I guess perseverance?). I love this.

Had a great day as advisor to burgeoning scientists. Attended an excellent dissertation defense on bioinformatics of bacteriophage ecology, watched my grad student present a seminar on modeling the cultural evolution of inequality, corresponded with a German physics PhD student who will be visiting my lab in the spring, and hosted a predoctoral student i am mentoring who zoomed into our lab meeting from NYC to talk to us about the dynamics of couple contagions on networks. I like this job.

🔔#hiring alert: i will be recruiting PhD students to my new lab at #UWMadison this cycle! (tentatively: the Social Interaction Lab). We are an inclusive and interdisciplinary #CogSci group at the rich intersection of #language, #socialcognition, #neuroscience, and #computation. Please boost and pass along to anyone who may be interested!

@noamross I was just thinking about the Butlerian jihad yesterday, in a similar vein.

My daughter noticed these very very strange things at Lake Solano today.

Thanks to iNaturalist we think we have figured out what they are. They are baby aliens from Zork.

@noahhaber you never know when you’ll need to both plot some functions and play a game of breakout.

Also, it's free.

@rdhawkins gotta say, the doomscrolling is still pretty solid over there.

@damienfarine I love writing book chapters. You shouldn’t think of them as the same medium as a journal article. It’s an opportunity to write how you like, and there’s much more flexibility in terms of style. (YMMV, since I have a fairly whimsical style and often feel boxed in by the journal format). I always post book chapters to preprint servers, so they’re still accessible.
