Conspiracy theory: Society floods the culture with sad and traumatizing messages because it mentally weakens the youth (who are easily malleable by messaging) and makes them more dependent than they would be if they were happy, with high confidence and self-esteem.

@realcaseyrollins I'm sympathetic to it as well. Agree with Maher on a lot of things. Being sympathetic doesn't mean you agree though, and generally speaking I think it'd be better if people were sympathetic to other viewpoints. Being sympathetic is the only way to find common ground.

Unpopular opinion: if we make laws saying tech companies can't sell anonymous data, it's going to make it so only the largest tech companies can exist (since they can use their data across products, while nobody else will have access to similar data, making it harder to compete against them).
