I must say, commuting 2-3 hours by train on a daily basis is working wonders for my reading habits
just finished Death’s Acre by Jefferson / Bass. It documents how the famous body farm came about (the research facility where they study human body decay), plus the real cases Dr Bass worked on.
and immediately I’m starting the next book 🌚
Thanks to our friends at @owncast we are having a little public test of a community extension of radio free fedi.
Initially a real-time, fedi authenticated (if you wish) handles, moderated chat hangout with RFF simulcast. Or you can just chat while listening using your usual or preferred method.

also, TIL that the solidified lava, as it degrades, actually becomes one of the most fertile soils on the planet!
She [Pele, the goddess of fire, residing in the volcano] is doing what she does. We’re in her space. If she takes the house, she takes the house. [..] There is temporary permanence to living within the boundaries of Pele’s domain.

it’s a pcap-to-csv parser (one of many) and I hope I don’t jinx it if I say it out loud - those deserve a proper writeup & comparison. A note for future self.
day 81 of recovery from a depression episode:
this morning I felt like I could “take a look” at a passion project that’s been forgotten for too long.
8 hours later: cleaned up the code, prepared a docker container, introduced a config file, started testing… wow! I don’t know this version of myself, and hope she’s here to stay! 🏆
some quotes I noted down for myself:
depression is not an illness - it is a symptom of a problem.
you cannot think your way out of it - the depression is a legitimate reaction to your surrroundings and unaddressed internal issues. The cure is physical and / or environmental.
as soon as you’re given a diagnosis it becomes your identity - and it shouldn’t! nowadays there is merch, communities, gadgets, monuments, gigs etc. clustered around the issue. It does not help.
procrastination is a fear response. If I do this something bad will happen. Suboptimal effort at self-protection.
shadows are formed when light is blocked. Shadow intelligence - are you in touch with all aspects of your personality - including the parts you hate.
step one: it’s fixable.
step two: can you identify a benefit behind your bad habits etc.
step three: what are you willing to do today. don’t think too far. small wins!
you are not so smart podcast: Britt Frank on the science of stuck
today I successfully repaired my sewing machine.
it involved going to the store for a couple of screwdrivers, watching first 3 minutes of a couple of yt videos, dismantling the plastic covers, pulling out a stuck piece of thread, mounting the plastic covers back on, and realizing I’m left with 2 spare screws and lots of bruises on my fingers.
a nice achievement after 2 (two) years (yes) of avoiding the problem and sewing by hand instead.

gotta love how very little I care about the quality of the sound. I know the song anyway! It’s playing in my head perfectly fine.
