Such a strong post by @reliablyjeff@sciences.social

He wrote it in the context of behavioral science in academia but it is strongly applicable to general academia.

And if you're in India, it is made further worse by gatekepping.

Bhakts want to send Mr Yogi Adityanath to France to stop the riots. Whereas it has been more than 2 months since Manipur is burning and their supreme leader hasn't paid a single visit.

Shambolic.

@mastodonindians

The greatest threat to Twitter isn't BlueSky or Threads or Mastodon. It's Twitter. It's 100% Twitter.

@reliablyjeff@sciences.social Thank you. Subscribed! Looks interesting.

What are some good blogs/newsletters to follow related to Analytics/Data Science/Operations Research?

Any suggestions?

TDS and some other medium blogs seem very cluttered nowadays. It is quantity over quality for them but I am looking for the opposite.

For OR, I follow these two blogs:
1. Yet another math programming consultant
2. OR in an OB world

Any suggestions?

FWIW, I hope more Twitter clones appear because, at some point, users will STOP making accounts on all of them. And when that happens, they will be forced to find a way to exchange content with each other or in other words, FEDERATE, with each other.

Unless the future is dystopian, in which case, the owners will force them to become walled gardens, even at the cost of them becoming echo chambers.

If i were to host my own fedi server thats not mastodon (i want something lightweight and there will be like 5 users max probably), what would you recommend?

#fediverse #selfhost

@bibliolater Good point. Haven't thought of it in this way. A necessary evil (?) kind of thing.

One of the difficulties that a cohort of new users to will face is that there is no controlling the content they consume. It makes the job of populating timelines, a personal effort.

Hope everyone in the #usa had a great holiday weekend! We're back to the races on the #redditMigration with some more huge communities announcing landing spots for people migrating from #reddit.

Topics include #android and #xiaomi -- and an entire instance popped up for #malaysia!

Communities also popped up for #harrypotter #fanfic, #firefox #css customizing, and #opensuse!

Have you found your largest communities?

Share to help others migrate to #kbin and #lemmy!

I would prefer it if Elon Musk was destroying his site during the work week. This isn't the first time.

“It’s better in the app”

Well the fix your fucking website. Don’t make it my problem.

So, weekend tally: The number of active users across Mastodon rose by 294K, and posting activity roughly tripled. Lots of new sign-ups, but also many returning users. Fun times!

There's a lot of talk about social media these days: #Twitter restrictions and changes, #Meta #Facebook launching #Threads.
And there's #Mastodon which is open & decentralized. That's why we became the first browser to have our own server here - #VivaldiSocial.
Vivaldi Social has no ads and your behavior is not tracked or analyzed for vested interests. It is all about what you like, who you want to follow and interact with. You have control. :tony_happy:

Is there any company who actually uses Jump (jump.dev/JuMP.jl/stable/) i.e. scalable MIPs in ?

I have mostly used for Mathematical Optimization. But might have to move over to sooner or later.

Though, the library I have used in R, was massively influenced by Jump Julia. But sadly, no one uses R for Operations Research.

Why a civil engineer in TN strived for a year to have her street’s name changed

Anusuya, a 28-year-old civil engineer from Indira Nagar in Ariyalur district, led sustained efforts over the past year to have her area’s name officially changed by removing caste identifiers.
