The current situation is so bad that journalists aren't even quoting them correctly, let alone checking what's happening.

@divya A 100 years ago, an Indian came to US to study, joined the US Army, was honourably discharged as a Sergeant, proceeded to apply for citizenship, was granted and then denaturalized by the then SCOTUS.
This Indian, Bhagat Singh Thind, tried to argue that he was Caucasian by dint of being a high-caste. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Bhagat_Singh_Thind
So yeah. Casteism has existed in US for at least 100 years.
Also, Racism in US is a form of casteism, as argued recently: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caste:_The_Origins_of_Our_Discontents
Suprisingly came across a post by @coachbennett where he talked about the same thing.

Run should be a mixtape. Otherwise it often gets quite tiring. Same road, same songs, same distances, same durations.
Fellow #mastindians , what are your favourite Podcasts? Specially made in or about India?
My two favorites:
1. The seen and the unseen
2. Puliyabazi
I also like 3 things by the Indian Express. But they're just news bites.
Suggest me some! The topics can be anything.
@madhu_shrieks @h_tejas @ishmael Baban is there in Marathi also?
You'll find a Baban in every moholla of Kolkata. Every moholla has his own Baban. And obviously, Bapi, Poltu, Bablu, Laltu etc.
@Tamillivanilli@mstdn.plus This is true.
But I think the landscape is changing also.
Previously you would had gatekeepers (big house publishers) who would want the stories (or poems) in this form or that form.
Nowadays, to publish a story all you need is an internet connection. And due to that new writers are coming up who are challenging the old norms (in more than 1 way)
@madhu_shrieks @mastodonindians Try City Central Hostel. Heard they are good and cheap.
@Deus @mastodonindians The coverage is there (like you said with channels supporting their fav party).
But my biggest worry is how normalised it is now. And no one tries to change it.
Already 8 have died now.

Posts are called “Gripes.” No likes or reposts—just one button to “Commiserate.” If a Gripe receives enough Commiseration it’s elevated by the algorithm into a “Complaint.”
Also there’s an academic version called “Faculty Meeting.”
Isn’t it covered by the MSM? Of course, with each taking sides. First it was the finger pointing between Mamata’s camp v/s the CPI. And now it’s Mamata’s camp and the BJP lashing out at each other.
A state and people with such potential. Unfortunate that the brilliant ones have to move to better pastures (other states in India or abroad).
/Coming from someone who has worked in Kol for close to 5 years and has had friends from W. Bengal for the last 20 years or so - though we hardly talk politics.
Haha. This whole thread sumes up the frustration when a regular #rstats user starts using/uses #python .
She couldn't have done a better job in summarising the irritation & sorrow.
Also, that reminds me, I need to convert some ggplot code to seaborn/matplotlib today. Ugh!!!

Polls, violence and West Bengal
I don't think this gets covered enough in the mainstream media. But the bloodbath during polls in #westbengal is concerning. And it will happen again, today.
Don't know if we need a top down change or a bottms up change, but this just pains me to see my state in this condition.
Mixed the morning run today. 500m run + 500m walk.
Often it feels good to shake things up.
