New instance, new #Introduction !
My name is Jürgen, and I translate old German folk tales into English - not just tales from the Brothers Grimm, but from the hundreds of other 19th century German folklorists out there.
To date, I have translated more than 600 tales. You can learn more about my project here (and you can get a free ebook version of my first book if you subscribe to my newsletter there):
Ukrainian genius #mathematician, Maryna Viazovska, has won the #Fields #Medal. She has become only the second woman to receive this prestigious award, often regarded as the Nobel Prize for mathematics. Her work solved a 400-year-old puzzle about sphere packing.
Damn. This is eloquent.
@trinsec To a radical not being a radical is the most radical thing you could be!
@tcely is the notification working for you? I quite liked the app but couldn't use because of that broken feature.
Even if #WestBengal sees a constant rotation of green, saffron and red in power in the coming years, nothing will really change. A top-down approach won’t work, only a bottom-up one will.

@shrikant @mastodonindians @ngkabra Mostly wanted the first two. But even for the third, there will be some Indian perspective. Subscribed already. :-)
@shibaprasad @mastodonindians Do you want India-focused podcasts? Or Indians doing India-focused podcasts? Or will any podcasts by Indians do?
If it is the last one, may I offer up the podcast @ngkabra and I make? It's called "Future IQ" and it is primarily on YouTube but we also post an audio-only version.

@Memeghnad hosts some interesting podcasts too.
@josiah @orizuru Haha kinda had the same experience. We had a 3 hours long interaction with them, they were clueless for most of the R stuffs. And our team mostly uses R. For ML-OR-Analytics, everything.
When we attended a hands-on workshop, the presenter said "R lovers, sorry to say, it is time to move on. It used to be cool but not anymore." (paraphrased)
@josiah @orizuru Tbh, it is not a total presumption. I primarily work in #rstats and have faced the same issues.
The DevOps team told the same to one of my teammates. And the Plumber library had some authentication issues related to UMS2 IIRC.
We adapted databricks quickly and found a way to call the R scripts from a Python notebook.
Even on #Databricks, the support of R is so poor!
@madhu_shrieks That's a great show. Cunk on earth: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt16867040/

I have this weird problem of QOTO not opening from the personal PC. But it opens from the Tor browser or from Mobile through the same WIFI. Think it started happening after I updated my Windows.

Wow. That's an intriguing chain of threads. I want to reply to all of them.
3. Very very common in other the walk of life. I sometimes get very cautious about it (not the predatory part). And ask myself thrice "Am I mansplaining it?"
4. That is so creepy. I think your teacher was just a creep.
On the casteism thing, was this the first time in your life that someone told you that? Because for me (I am also a Bramhin), I was told that by relatives and others many times. It gets very irritating too. Like I don't want to take credit of this thing. Stop praising me for that. Even the last time when I was back home someone said "wearing the thread is a matter of pride, not everybody gets to do it". It was awkward when I said that it has been almost 8 years since I had worn one. :-P
I have heard about the last point from friends that education is filmmaking is something that many can't afford. Specially I think in private colleges and universities? In West Bengal, JU has a comparatively good and cheaper program. Profs are also chill.
Gonna give some people the benefit of the doubt so a quick post - every piece of software can have vulnerabilities, new vulnerabilities can pop up all the time, it's good that Mastodon had penetration testing carried out to test its security. No need to treat it as a "gotcha".
Every single time Windows has forced an update on you was to fix extremely unsafe security vulnerabilities too, for example.
