I'm planning to build my own NAS and now decide to use Unraid instead of TrueNAS because ECC memory will be important to ZFS compared to other filesystems. (I saw this from a lot of discussions)
My question is why? I know ZFS rely on RAM for caching, but why ZFS is more vulnerable to memory corruptions? And why other systems like unraid and btrfs are not as emphasize ECC memory?
It's quite interesting to see two major voices. People from TrueNAS side suggest you must have ECC memory if you care about your data. But people from unraid side said ECC it's not worth the money.

I also think if I keep a list of hashes when I back up my data, then ECC might not be nessary at all.

I guess the best way to protect the Linux development community is bow your head to US government and start licking Biden's boots?

That list is great but it will never happen, Linus is high on his
western supremacy complex.
Most of the anger (including mine) comes from people who have just
realized what kind of a person Linus is.
He has exposed his lack of morals and inability of self reflection
with the trolls comment.
He has exposed his ignorance, coming from his state media
brainwashing, with the media comment.
He has exposed his ignorance, arrogance and blatant Russophobia with
his "I'm Finish" comment, as if
Finland has any high moral ground when it comes to WWII (for the
historically ignorant: Finnish "concentration camps").
And this is not over, there are plenty of other countries and entities
on the official USA enemies list.
The real majority of the world, all of us outside the USA and their
vassal states, their so called "free world" (one maintainer
actually used that blatant display of American supremacy in a commit
removing Huawei maintainers) are looking at this
with sadness and anger.
The Cold War 2.0 has came to the Linux world and as in the first one,
the Iron curtain has been erected
by those that claim moral high ground with their false values of
freedom, openes, merit etc.

I thought Linux kernel was an international project. But in the end it is just an American project.
I guess Stallman is right again.
> Again, we're really sorry it's come to this, but all of the Linux
infrastructure and a lot of its maintainers are in the US and we can't
ignore the requirements of US law.
So the kernel running on my desktop is controlled by the US?

Set up a new mastodon instance with @mastohost for 9 USD per month.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the new instance, but it's shockingly easy and relatively affordable to set up an instance with my own subdomain.
Let's see how long it last :)

I'm a Chinese shitizen, but I generally don't post in Chinese to avoid being suffering from other Chinese.
I'm physically a male, but I don't care how people think about my gender. I can be male, or female, or cat. But if you ask, I'd prefer to be referred to as male. Also, I support LGBT+ people, and I'm a copyleft. I don't think I'm too aggressive in arguing things, but sometimes I do. You should handle it with care.
I post about programming (most time is Java and Kotlin, unless I have a new love), and some random things I find interesting. I also post about my mental health, which is in a stable state of instability, thanks to my parents and Chinese society.
Anyway, if you want to follow me, I'm glad to see you. And, have a nice day.
