2022 was without a doubt the best year of my life. I'm not sure how 2023 could possibly top it, but I'm open to be surprised.

In 2022 I:
- Had my first Día de los Reyes magos 👑
- Started going to the gym regularly 💪
- Got engaged!💍
- Celebrated my birthday at an SEO conference in Mexico 🇲🇽🎉
- Was made redundant when the startup I was working at folded 📉 🫤
- Married @LidiaInfanteM (twice!) 🤵👰
- Started a new Clojure role at a different startup! 🧑‍💻
- Went to a fire lantern festival on honeymoon 🏮🏮🏮
- Experienced my first non COVID Spanish Christmas 🎄🇪🇸

On the whole a great year! 🎉

This evening's population density map is England. I have an urge to label everything but who knows, I might already have made mistakes. 😅

It's probably about time I introduced myself!

👋 I'm Steph, a Principal Software Engineer in the UK. I help teams improve their development and release practices.

I'm newly diagnosed with ADHD and have a love for vintage style. You will generally see me in large impractical skirts.

I knit, crochet and game (mostly Destiny 2 right now) and I have two adorable puppers Finn the Scottie and Milo the Westie.

I've been informed dinner starts at 9:30 tonight so I've smiggled a sandwich! 🍔🤣

I'm spending Christmas with the in-laws in Catalonia. There are some... Unique Christmas traditions there which my wife explained to me with this video. 💩

Why do so many non ruby projects use ruby / rake as the build tool?

Like, bash is hard, I get it... but it works really well for gluing ci tasks together and it doesn't need to pull down a bunch of external libs.

Builds failing because your project depends on an old ruby version / code / deps isn't better.

Running everything through rake for a ruby project make sense, sure! Otherwise why are you wrapping a totally JS codebase's npm commands in a rakefile?

Just because bash can be intimidating doesn't mean that using ruby is the solution.

I’m not a game developer, I haven’t used my own sprites yet, and my JS code is a mess, but look at this HTML and CSS code—isn’t it beautiful?

My next step is to understand how to implement a proper collision system, and I have absolutely no idea how to do that :panic_intensifies:
