The NYTimes really has an ageism problem. First it's Biden, and now it's, weirdly, Don Henley of the Eagles. How is this relevant to a story about a theft trial?

How did a “half-insane rascal,” a “pathetic dunderhead,” a “nowhere fool,” a “big mouth” persuade millions of ordinary citizens to embrace his “doctrine of hatred” and make him absolute dictator of a once-great nation?

Michiko Kakutani reviewed Volker Ullrich’s account of Hitler’s ascent in September 2016. Remember September 2016?

Her review was brilliant. She never once names Trump, but he is present in every paragraph, and not by accident.

I'm sure many people know this, but in case you don't - if you are on the ACA with premium tax credits and get this message from your shitty insurer a few days after the due date you can ignore it. You have 90 days to pay your premium. They're just trying to improve their cash flow.

I want an apology from all the mansplainers that told me my concerns about privatizing NASA and relying to heavily on SpaceX would undermine the national security policy of the United States.

It's stupid to think ADL is responsible for Twitter ad revenue collapsing, but to blame ADL for both that and the rise of anti-Semitism on the platform is -- worse than stupid.

Getting rid of some inherited ancient books and was wondering if anyone was interested in this old cook book illustrating the art of American cooking.

You'd think that if, as claimed, Meta had done a really great job of "red teaming" Code LLama (the open source LLM for producing code) any positive Hitler references would be automatically rejected, but guess not. What a disaster.

Playing around with Meta's Llama-2 model and it thinks that historians have been unnecessarily stigmatizing Stalin for his contribution to the Ukrainian Holomodor.

Viome, a microbiome startup, raises $86.5M, inks distribution deal with CVS tcrn.ch/47zUkDY

Which quotes me a bit. Needless to say, I am very skeptical of Viome and many of its claims.

“But people on the whole were pretty dim upstairs, and if you started dwelling upon this or that person’s dimness, ranking it and measuring just how dim this or that motherfucker was, before you realize it half the day is gone.”

The more stuff I read from the Microsoft guy who authored the "Sparks of AGI" paper, the more I'm convinced that even he knows that it was just bullshit. As illustrated by this diversionary response to a legitimate question.

Today I had time to read the full report on faked data in the former Stanford president Marc Tessier-Lavigne’s work, his failures to correct and retract misleading or incorrect articles, and his mismanagement of labs whose members manipulated the data. Ultimately, I was struck by the grubbiness of Tessie-Lavigne’s conduct, and how it smacks of the same lack of ethical judgment repeatedly displayed by Clarence Thomas. Report here: washingtonpost.com/documents/4 1/

Now ex-Stanford president keeps job and still allowed to conduct research after overseeing fraudulent papers. Gofundme page arriving soon.
