One of the things I learned at Amazon, that I still value above all else, is the value of responding to questions with “tell me more” and “it depends”. The former will help you avoid the XY Problem and the latter is probably the most universally true answer you will ever come across.
@Biggles “tell me more” helps you help others to really understand their problem, the context, contributing factors, and differentiating between symptoms and causes. “It depends” helps you do the same by clarifying your own thinking.
