When papers discuss "viral clearance" in regards to COVID, they generally test this by PCR. In other words, your nasopharynx has cleared the virus.

When papers about COVID discuss "viral persistence" they're usually talking about the virus taking up safe harbor somewhere deep in your body. These people are generally not testing positive by PCR.

The fact that I'm seeing a few prominent science people mixing these interchangeably recently tells me just how far we have to go on this subject.

Apropos of the subject, longer term antivirals have been the subject of more than one clinical trial for long COVID and thus far the results are mixed, as would be expected. Here's one for an example:

Over the past 27 years, #H5N1 #birdflu has repeatedly defied #flu dogma, doing things scientists thought #influenza viruses couldn't or didn't do. We would be foolhardy to assume it doesn't have more tricks up its sleeve. statnews.com/2024/05/09/bird-f

Thankfully it was a "minor" heart attack. He's really into hiking and camping and can't figure out why his health's been so bad for 6 months. I just don't think it's my place to launch into the "COVID talk" but I feel bad for the guy. He's hoping to do our roof work in a couple weeks. I'll see if an opportunity presents itself to casually drop COVID into a conversation.

Via @n, time.com/6898943/is-covid-19-s is awful. What editor let this through? Is their fact checker now AI?

I'm going to vent at this example of very bad journalism!

Thanks for reading so I don't have to :)

Wachter, Osterholm....my blood pressure just doesn't need it this morning.

Woohoo my youngest's teacher said she will have a look at the Covid Safety for Schools course 💃🏻💃🏻

I try and keep my pinned posts relevant to things that are ongoing, but, perhaps it's time for this thread to make a comeback with all of the stories out there about states(newsobserver.com/news/politics) and universities talking about banning masks.

I thought state legislatures would jump on this immediately at the end of the emergency declaration, and I was wrong about that, but I've always assumed this was coming eventually.

Had to pull up an old post here for an unfortunate update.

We went back to this guy because we had another roofing job that we needed done and he was our first call. He said he was happy to take it on and scheduled us for almost a month ago now. He tore a ligament in his knee on the job before ours, unfortunately. These things happen.

However, while rehabbing that, in and out of doctor’s offices, etc. he got “sick” again. Checked in with him this morning to see how he was doing, as he’d tentatively scheduled us for next week and he had a heart attack yesterday.

Periodic PSA: If you find any content that I post objectionable, here are your options:

1. Ignore it.

2. Learn to use your filters. Really, this is the best answer if you cannot ignore it. I suspect that I'm not alone pushing past what you want, so...

3. Mute me.

4. Block me.

This morning, someone took me to task for having boosted a political post. They said they wanted to read my stuff about neurodivergence. I replied "use filters." They replied that they'd rather not read me.

Well...

Wish granted.

I blocked them.

That's what you get when you ask someone like me who cares not to disturb your peace. If you cannot use the tools at your disposal to filter out what you find objectionable, then my only option is to stop you from reading me.

Now, see, the political posts that I boost, and you think are not about neurodivergence, are *actually* about neurodivergence.

"Lol wut?"

My sense of social justice comes from my neurodivergence, and this is what makes me boost them.

This is my brand of self-care.

@jordinn

I get tired of fighting this fight, so thank you for taking it up :)

I say this as a scientist AND someone who was vaccinated against whooping cough and then got it!

Zero tijgermug mag wel. Zero Covid is alleen voor gekkies.
