Oh absolutely. There's virtually no way to know everything we need to know at this point. Science just doesn't work that way.
I just want to see the discussion had at each step, rather than trying to skip steps along the way. If that makes sense.
To be clear, I didn't express concern, per se. I know there's this rush to defend vaccinations anytime anything even slightly negative is brought up, and so I don't generally mention the v-word at all. I do all of my COVID advocacy on that tightrope.
I'm honestly interested in the timing, and exactly this science, when multiple things are seemingly fairly clear:
We can't vaxx our way out of this alone.
The vaccines do work for lowering(not preventing...lets not start the whole vaxx and relax thing again) death and hospitalization.
Antibodies seem to wane far sooner than a year.
The administration wants to do yearly vaccines.
Science like this article discusses seems to indicate that vaccinating every few months, when antibodies wane, might not be the best idea.
There's seemingly a conundrum there that I'm not sure health policy has thought through just yet. I'm always open to new science and new trains of thought!
Thanks for sharing this! I have wondered about this, but hadn't seen it discussed much. Whenever that happens I just assume that not having a bio background has left me without some key knowledge and I wait for the more well versed amongst us to discuss it so I can learn.
Perhaps @fitterhappierAJ could weigh in?
Efficacy of NPIs against respiratory pathogens
Yeah I'm not gonna lie. I was doing some morning reading earlier today, saw that article's title, saw the authors and moved on. Very glad that someone took the time to refute it!

Gavin Yamey's had a lot of really bad takes over the last few years.
From what I understand he's not calling the shots. His wife does that, and she probably doesn't care how many times or how often he gets eviscerated as long as they keep moving up the power ladder.
I absolutely agree it's ripe for a lawsuit and I suspect it's something we'll see play out in the courts in a couple of years. Just hope it doesn't end up in front of someone like Judge Cannon. Outside of the cases mentioned in the ACLU article above I don't know the case history of the laws in the states that they exist.

Congrats! My dad, also with brain fog, is giving this a try now. Seems to help in quite a few cases, at least.
Really sorry to hear this. I hope he recovers well.
Covid thoughts
I'd totally buy that shirt
It's an interesting take. I've wondered this about our family's former pediatrician. He happily vaccinated our kids, following the established regiment, when they were smaller. He spoke highly of vaccines at the time.
Last time we saw him he had decided to tailor his practice to off-label prescriptions(think, want some ivermectin? We can get that for you!) and "doesn't do" vaccinations of *any kind* anymore. I've often wondered if this was a belief, or a business decision.
He was always a deeply religious man, so I've never been able to figure out if it was a business decision, seeing that about 70% of the locals voted for Trump, or if he belongs to one of the local anti-vaxx churches and they changed his mind on his practice.
I've been posting a bit about this, and I think this article, from November 2019, gives a good intro to the subject.

To add to the growing list of sources about this here's an article from the ACLU just prior to the pandemic about how these laws have been used. I can't believe I missed this before:

This article is so spot on with what I'm seeing. Everyone I know who presented with long COVID symptoms the past couple of years was told by their doctors to "push through it" and exercise more. Then when they decline they're referred to a psychiatrist.

Yup, my wife tells me about her high school science kids and it's the same idea. Multiple have gone from really good students to unable to pass a quiz, or even discuss science, after COVID. She says they just can't find the words anymore.
In 2019, the last time my kids were in brick and mortar school, during the first week of school my son's teacher and a parent got in a fist fight outside of the school during morning drop off.
This is one of the things I love about virtual school. No school violence.
Also, because there's no building infrastructure to support the teachers get paid more, and they're generally happier and more pleasant to deal with.
I couldn't agree more, and as people have questioned what the laws are, how they've been used, etc. and I've dug further into it you see somewhere like Virginia, who has virtually the identical law on the books, specifically stating that to wear a mask for your health that you have to have a physician's note on you whenever you're in public stating what the mask looks like and how long you'll need it. Then you begin to realize what you're saying has obviously crossed the minds of the people making the law. They don't want there to be freedom to cover your face eternally.
Honestly, again, no apologies, I appreciate when people question something I said because if I can't defend it then I shouldn't have said it. I'm always wary of living in an echo chamber.
Stress? Viral brain damage? Combination? My money's on a combination of the two.
Exactly.
I've learned more than I ever intended to about this whole thing as people have asked questions, and honestly that's been interesting. Virginia, for instance, has almost exactly the same law but specifically state that wearing a mask for medical purposes has to be approved by a physician and you have to carry a physician's note detailing why, what your mask looks like and for how long you need to use it. So they, clearly, think that "mask" refers to something like an N95 in this context.
Moved full time to my other account @BE soon as this instance is still having issues.
