We had long since given up as well, however, my friend blacking out at work and me being called from the hospital as his emergency contact, and now this situation, both over the last few weeks, we thought gave us the opportunity to try one more time. Obviously it didn't go anywhere in the moment with either of them. Maybe it planted a seed.
Very true, and a lesson I am firmly aware that I'm working on. I have a hard time with that one!
I'm going way back to my first real post on Mastodon here. I've mentioned my wife's best friend quite a few times over the last couple of years.
I had another post about her when she asked about COVID precautions, and then refused. She went to Japan a few months back, unmasked, of course.
So, she calls my wife tonight and starts with "I'm wearing a heart monitor."
Long story short, after listening to her whole story of doctors visits, she has PEM. Her doctors haven't quite gotten there yet.
My wife went ahead and said that was pretty common after COVID, and she said, "Oh come on. I've only had it four times. Some people have had it way more often than me."
She has no clue, despite our best attempts.

Fire chars home of Black dog walker earlier targeted by racist threats
Just weeks after he began receiving racist threats at his family home, both of Terry Williams’ parents had to be rescued from their home after a sudden fire set their building in flames. Williams’ mother, who is nearly 80, had to be carried out of the building, and his father was rescued as he was trying to escape the building, according to Lieutenant Jonathan Baxter.

I was thinking about this earlier today, and you know what I find to be the most ironic part of our modern, consumerist society?
We live in a throw away society. Yet, we created two of the most long lasting pollutants in history in PFAs and microplastics. Bioaccumulation of long lasting pollutants sucks.

I'd like to push back that we know how to prevent or reduce farm to farm spread, at least a little. The viral sequencing indicates that it's spreading back and forth between birds and cows. There's nothing you can do to stop birds from flying all over. Doing testing for cattle that are going to cross state lines is at least *something* even if I think it's insufficient.
Agreed with the rest, and totally agree that bird flu is nothing new and we're seemingly unprepared.
