The coolest part of last night’s #Athletics protest (🎥🧵👇): A few min in, the PA went silent, so the chants could be heard clearly. Didn’t even announce the A’s batters (hence missing Langeliers’ 2-run triple.) A’s employees got our backs! 💛💚🥹 https://twitter.com/bbl_astrophyscs/status/1652153823765630977
23 years of rapping onstage, thousands of US shows, hundreds of UK shows, even tours in Australia... and I've never done a single set in Canada. Join me as I break that habit, Montreal #nerdstockfest on June 10th.

Massachusetts' #EV incentives were already considered some of the best in the country. They're about to get better with new provisions for low-income car buyers, used vehicles, and POS rebates: https://energynews.us/2023/04/26/massachusetts-prepares-to-launch-new-electric-vehicle-rebates-early-this-summer/
In memory of the wonderful Marianne Joan Elliott-Said aka Poly Styrene, English singer-songwriter and frontwoman of the punk rock band X-Ray Spex, who died 13 years ago today of metastatic breast cancer at the age of 53

Went to the funeral of a WWII veteran today. A heavy machine-gunner in the 100th Infantry Division, he helped retake France in 1944. Purple Heart. Two bronze service stars. His division liberated over 100 French villages & towns, never once retreating. Legit war hero.
He was 98.
And he was Jewish.
And he was my father-in-law.
And anyone advocating we teach "both sides" of the Holocaust or questioning the ethics of our fighting Nazis with every weapon we had is asking for a punch in the face.
@Bertrecords i'm talking about the blue check. I was verified. Didn't like having it was there because some of my think I was an idiot and paying for it. In any event I'm keeping the account so someone else doesn't take the name. And then the longshot, hope that someone buys it and brings back some semblance of sanity.
@jimcarroll Your banner shows for me.
So the Canadian CBC/Radio Canada is 'pausing' Twitter.
They need to understand Mastodon. They need to architect a presence here. They need to get their heads into how this place is different, can be used to reach out to Canadians, and be used as a tool for growth in their programming and mission.
I appeared on the network, literally hundreds of times, explaining the importance of the unfolding Internet ... on radio shows, TV shows. I'm probably in the archives with all these shows.
Here I am in November 1993 explaining to two hosts of a popular Toronto CBC show what was unfolding.
I no longer have contacts there, but if anyone does - they need to hear this story again.
Peter Mansbridge would think this was a good idea.
@vickyvdtogt Amazing work!
Seems important. And testable. https://mastodon.nl/@vickyvdtogt/110196805189572082
Yesterday, as his latest story on #ClarenceThomas was breaking, ProPublica's @elliottjustin answered a flood of questions in a fortuitously timed Reddit AMA. (Seriously, we did not plan for these two things to coincide!)
The question window is closed but you can still see all his responses here:

My book, The Hroswitha Club and the Impact of Women Book Collectors, is e-published today! This book was my grounding project in the pandemic, and its greatest contribution (imho) is naming 100+ women book collectors, most of which are not named in other resources on the topic.
I wrote this book bc the Wikipedia page was marked for deletion in 2019. Now that this is out, I'm spending tomorrow rewriting the entire page. Finally.
I think this may be the best explanation of how Mastodon works that I've seen in my 5 months of being here.
