Public Service Warning
Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when when Musk pulled the employee purge.
It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.
We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.
@april @Dbrauer Here is a journal article, a study showing the impact of providing cars to 30 individuals who were without a car. There were major quality of life impacts. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0739456X20950428
@april @Dbrauer The studies say that car ownership is worth $10,000 per year in wages.
Also, think about where development does not include sufficient parking. It is only in poorer areas. Parking regulations have no impact on the wealthy. Business makes sure there is sufficient parking where the demographic brings enough money.
No money laundering here, people. Nope. Not at all. Speculators buy multi-hundred batches of #Trump #collectibles because they're valuable!
Nothing to see here... move along.

I read your post:

Excellent stuff! I've done pretty much the same with S3 and Cloudfront; but in my case, coming out of a Vultr Ubuntu 22.04 server. I hit the same memory issue trying to compile; 2GB minimum was required.
I did it for the same reason - to understand how this works and scales in the back. I've learned lots and eager to learn more.
The IAM usage did intrigue me; that's something I can't do. On the other hand, I'm on fail2banned up
My series continues.
We need to plan faster with bigger goals in mind – but we’ve been distracted. We’ve been in triage mode with our organization in dealing with the pandemic, supply chain challenges, a volatile economy, and workforce issues.
That’s why trend #10 of my “23 Trends for 2023” has to do with the idea of ‘revisiting strategic agility’ – which is to say, the ability to plan faster with bigger goals in mind!

People on the other site keep telling me that Mastodon is just an echo chamber... which... is not at all how I'm experiencing it. Lots of people seem willing to disagree with me and make their disagreements clear.
They just don't suggest that I don't deserve to live when they do. And that seems healthier.

What a tragedy that this good man, who has devoted his life to public service, who has made mistakes and learned from them, and who still expresses a profound understand of America’s public-health problems, should remain a target of vitriol from the worst among us. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-04432-7
