Further damage to the dysfunctional academic career system in Germany: The government has just presented its reform of the fixed term contract law (#WissZeitVG).
After years of #IchbinHanna protests, the max. length of fixed contracts for postdocs has been reduced to 3 years. The cynical argument: Careers become more predictable, because 3 years after your PhD, it's either professorship, third party funding, or exit.
The lack of a broader tenure track system makes this a devastating development.

@hermwerf
Problem is that there are not enough Jprof positions in sight. Critics on both sides of the table expect more hire and fire (tagesspiegel.de/wissen/umstrit)
I also see that this will increase the push to publish fast and simple (and wrong) and make all non-stratgies career strategies even more suicidal. I do not see how methods specialists or deep-digging data gatherers will survive here.

In case you missed it! Take a look at "The Visible Cash Effect with Prepaid Incentives: Evidence for Data Quality, Response Rates, Generalizability, and Cost" by Matthew DeBell

"In the two studies, several aspects of data quality were investigated ... no adverse effects of visible cash were detected, and sample composition improved marginally. Effects on survey costs were either negligible or resulted in net savings."

ICYMI! Take a look at "Estimating Web Survey Mode and Panel Effects in a Nationwide Survey of Alcohol Use" by Randal ZuWallack, Matt Jans, Thomas Brassell, Kisha Bailly, James Dayton, Priscilla Martinez, Deidre Patterson, Thomas K Greenfield & Katherine J Karriker-Jaffe

"The study found that ABS-web and RDD were similar for most estimates but exhibited differences for sensitive questions including getting drunk and experiencing depression."

@CarinaCornesse OSF is an excellent option: osf.io/registries.

It provides multiple templates. I like the "OSF Preregistration". You can also find some survey research examples if you browse the registries

: Where should I preregister my survey methodological experiment? Does anyone have any recommendations/ideas re: platforms? Simple time-efficient registration process would be great!

Just got a conditional accept in Sociological Science!

Why may offline population inclusion via internet equipment not make a difference for survey outcomes? Our thoughts:
a) offline population is just too small to make a difference
b) "true" non-internet users are unwilling to be equipped
c) recruited offliners turn into onliners

German Internet Panel paper published in @JSurvStatMeth, Ruben Bach, Jessica Daikeler and I propose that the answer might be "Not really". Read more here:

Was looking at a 1976 #dissertation today and the author’s acknowledgments included this, about their advisor:

“Over the years Mark and I developed a good sense of timing—we never lost faith in me at the same time.”

In case you missed it! Take a look at Mark Trappmann, Georg-Christoph Haas, Sonja Malich, Florian Keusch, Sebastian Bähr, Frauke Kreuter & Stefan Schwarz on "Augmenting survey data with digital trace data: Is there a threat to panel retention?"

"Fears of decreased panel retention, held by many panel providers, are not unjustified, however the effects we observed leveled off over time."
