Jumping into your timeline to tell you that Arby's is dunking on Stanley Steemer in the and offering free Diablo Double Dare Dingleberries for the first 14 guys whose avatars are wearing sunglasses in the cab of their truck!

And you're missing it!

..or not.

It’s really sad for people who lost their trusted online home in #Twitter with the Mail takeover. He really shows who he is now by firing half the staff blindly, he simply doesn’t care about the human aspect.

Try to see it positive since now you have discovered a place that’s as much as fun and probably even more! We may not have the numbers but we make up for that by kindness and interaction with each other🥰♥️

A social network is not defined by its numbers but by its community :blobcathug:

"Mastodon is too complicated for mass adoption."

Who the hell wants mass adoption? Name one thing on the Internet with mass adoption that isn't a dumpster fire.

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's

everyone is jeering at elon musk, but whom amongst us can say that they’ve never spent too much money on domain name that they don’t know what to do with?

New folks, just a reminder: continue to follow and unfollow people, curate that nice home timeline of yours. Be curious and open up profiles of everyone you see here — whether that’s from a boost or a reply from an existing follower to someone else. Good luck!

P.s. Keep posting about your day and thoughts like it’s 2007 and Twitter hasn’t yet taken off. Just vibe. We’re all here to chill. Mostly. Find your community, not an audience.

I think I might be able to hack up a basic flutter based mastadon client by the end of the weekend. 👀

Another quick PSA for the newcomers:

There is no Mastodon.

As in, there is no entity out there called Mastodon that needs to "get it together" or "make things easier."

Every server is a unique collection of hardware and software operated by a unique team of (usually) volunteer humans funded by (usually) donations.

Some days will be smoother than others. We new folks have flooded the network. Cut the volunteers some slack. Better yet, offer support.

The idea that federation prevents full-text search or the creation of a daily “main character” is turning me into a Mastodon believer.

Setting up a server from scratch might take some time, even if you successfully lobby your org, so here's a much simpler approach:

If you already have an author/staff profile page on wired.com, and that page has a link to your Mastodon profile with `rel="me"` on the HTML tag, then you can use that link to verify your Mastodon profile. Technically speaking, this will be *super* easy to get done. 2/3

Journalists: here's how to get your Mastodon profile verified. (Please boost this, people!) 🧵

Because Mastodon is self-hosted, the best way to verify your identity is to get the IT department at your org to set up a Mastodon server on your domain. For example, if you work for WIRED, your Mastodon account could be "@yourname@follow.wired.com." It's very similar to how you'd trust an email account. There's an easier alternative, though. 1/3

Anyone have any knowledge of newer client libraries for mastadon in dart? Seems the original is outdated and unmaintained for the past two years.

If that's still the case, I'll probably write a new one.

Took a look at the Android codebase for mastadon @ github.com/mastodon/mastodon-a, and there's definitely avenues for improvements that can be made!

Contemplating whether it's worth refactoring all of the java code there... or most likely, I think I'm going to take a stab at building a full flutter based cross platform (maybe even web) client.

Need to buy a domain first and read through the client development policies - as well as get a copyright release from the employer.

There is no single site or app that is "Mastodon." This isn't like Twitter, or Facebook.

Mastodon.social isn't "Mastodon" anymore than Gmail is "email." Gmail is one very popular email server, Mastodon.social is one very popular #Mastodon server.

Same goes for mastodon.online, mstdn.social, mas.to, etc.

This seems to be tripping up a lot of new people during the #twittermigration to the #fediverse

Everyone should be able to support their families. Not just those who win the employment lottery, only to lose it to the richest man in the world. Everyone deserves the dignity of being able to provide for their family. I’m taking around the world. His wealth is an obscenity.
