@tonic I think I may go play with it. Your digestive idea did spark an idea--do a model of digestive rates of different foods. I've designed a prelim investigation (suitable for 4th grade) but I'd like to see the what your tools come up.

@chancerydaily My first undergrad degree was in accounting, and after about 20 pages in on the instructions, I did the step-back and half-assed it. The jurors are basically being asked to take an advanced finance class as well as the law. I don't know that I would be up to it.

@chancerydaily Is that a typical number and type of instructions given the complexity of the case?

We've come up with testing various electrolyte drinks for electrical potential and various size and shapes for parachutes. A couple of interesting ones--do girls see more shades of red (he has older sisters who wear lipstick) and tracking the sleep patterns of cats of various ages.

@Ashear In about 2008, there was an 8-yo in my neighborhood who pled guilty to negligent homicide after killing his father and his father's roommate. He was put into residential treatment until he was 17 with mandatory re-evals every 4 years. If you want to research the widely available info, DM me because I won't post his name here even though news articles did after he was released.
