Oh, and I forgot...As I was taking the eggs out, the whites had overflowed the carton and dripped on my suede mukluks...

I guess I can't blame EVERYTHING on the holiday season blues:

1. I've been waiting to see a specialist for a health issue I've been dealing with since last January. I've called the referred provider twice in the last 2 months and they "don't have the referral." I've called my primary 3 times about this and they've sent the referral 3 times now. Even if I get the referrals straightened out, there's a 3 to 6 month wait.

2. S.O. doesn't want to use Chrome on his main computer, so I bought him a really stripped down Windows laptop. All he did was complain while I was getting all the Chrome apps working, which he needs for tele-med visits.

3. Went to the grocery store to stock up on a few things. The price of eggs is ridiculous, but I bought a dozen jumbos. I put them in a cooler in the back of the SUV for protection. When I opened the hatch, the cooler fell out and 1/2 of the eggs broke. Scrambled eggs for supper, and the dogs get the rest.

4. Speaking of dogs, was playing with one of them and her mouth ran into my hand. Now I have a couple of butterfly bandages that I have to keep changing.

The next 8 hours have to be better!

Hey folklore people! Good news. After hosting #MythologyMonday on the birdsite for three years now, @AimeeMaroux and I are also bringing it to Mastodon!

Give the project a follow (@mythologymonday) and tune in next Monday to join the fun.

See you then!

In the spirit of the holidays, we have a gift for the best fans in the world: more Death & Dream.

This deleted scene from The Sandman episode "The Sound of Her Wings" gives us a little more insight into why Death is the way she is. We hope you enjoy it.

The sound of an Olivetti Studio 44 #typewriter. It's at Conserve the Sound, a marvellous collection of once-familiar #sounds, as intensely evocative as the smell of hay or Plasticine or peat smoke (or whatever it is that does it for you)

I know that #ChatGPT is so last week, but I've been think about implications for drafting and working on #Contracts and #LegalWriting with AI-assistance (which is why I like to think AI is about "Augmented Intelligence" and not artificial intelligence).

I was discussing with our R&D team using AI to assist in contract drafting... so I asked ChatGPT to write a contract for a cow being sold for magical beans... and then to write it in musical form.

I was today years old when I discovered that @neilhimself wrote an episode of #Babylon5.

Rewatching B5 and in particular the Day of the Dead episode which features Penn and Teller.

Mind blown.

A little BBC Radio 4 news: You can hear the audio adaptation of my story The Sleeper and the Spindle in the UK on the radio on the 24th and the 26th, bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000qm49, and hear me with the BBC Symphony on Friday & Friday Week: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000cl2r and bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000cp2b. And after broadcast they will be available anywhere in the world using the websites or the BBC Sounds App.

@neilhimself Ah, now it feels like the holiday season has truly begun with the traditional "Neil Gaiman explains how to listen to BBC outside the UK" Thank you and can't wait to listen to it!

Mastodon has grown 8x in recent weeks, going from 300,000 users in October to 2.5 million last month: cnn.com/2022/12/20/tech/mastod

Hey artists/devs/authors/other creatives! Self promote all you want (so long as your instance allows it I guess) and if anyone comes into your mentions talking about how "oh we don't do that here, we value *dialogue* over *advertising*" just ignore em! Those people suck so who cares what they think! Most of us want to see the cool stuff you made because making stuff and sharing it is a valuable part of community building too

During this holiday season, remember that you can search on Donor's Choose (or similar site) for teacher projects that correspond with your area of interest.

I have a project to get a digital microscope that isn't funded. It comes from my experience as a child with glasses and is called "It's Hard to See through a Microscope with Glasses"

I encourage everyone to look for teachers in your area. Most of our requests are pretty basic.

Happy Holidays!

The #videogame industry will be unpacking the fallout from the new Epic Games COPPA ruling for a long time - $520 million in fines and restrictions. The ruling is a CRITICAL read for all of us who work with in-game economies, voice and text comms, and account processing. Half of the ruling specifically cites Epic's #UXdesign decisions as causing harm. Let's all make sure we take a hard look at our platforms post-holiday and prevent this from happening elsewhere. #gamedev ftc.gov/news-events/news/press

According to the Jan. 6 committee's report, when people passed through the metal detectors to see Trump speak, security confiscated 269 knives/blades; 242 cannisters of pepper spray; 30 blunt instruments; 18 brass knuckles; 18 tasers; along with body armor and gas masks.

Republicans have called Jan. 6th "legitimate protest."
