This is one of the most fascinating (true) stories I've read in a long time. The lede is captivating:

"I wrote a story for a friend. But in the end, he didn’t treat me like a friend. And I’m hurt."

And it has this great phrase: "the ghost world of law which haunts all of us."

Donald Trump illegally held, failed to protect, and refused to return top secret government documents, yet he's still not charged and running for president.

We strongly suspect Matt Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in exchange for money. He still walks free.

Police are rarely held accountable for inappropriate use of force that leads to needless deaths or injuries.

Is it any wonder why so many people think the police and justice systems are unfair and untrustworthy?

If you read one thing today, make it this moving piece from Celine Gounder about the legacy of her late husband Grant Wahl and the grifters who would try to twist it for the purposes of antivax propaganda.

I’ll follow this post with a link to an un-paywalled version.

I’m sharing this clip direct from barrister Robin Moira White on LinkedIn. Worth the read…

This. Is. FASCINATING: “The vaccine, which contains dead versions of the bacterium Paenibacillus larvae, comes in the form of food. The vaccine is incorporated into royal jelly, a sugar feed given to queen bees. Once they ingest it, the vaccine is then deposited in their ovaries, giving developing larvae immunity as they hatch.” nytimes.com/2023/01/07/science

Whew. Hakeem Jeffries took the GOP to school from A to Z. Literally. youtu.be/f9MowjSufRs

@AriCohn Cool story about Sky, my 90 lb malamute husky. We were out for our evening potty break, and I tripped on an ice-covered hole. I fell on her and dropped the leash. She yelped (hopefully just out of surprise), took 2 steps away, and then came right back and let me use her as a support to get my old, decrepit body back upright. I should mention Sky's a runner--usually if she gets off-leash she's 2 miles down the road. That's why I had to put 6 foot fencing around 1/2 an acre to make a dog park. A large dog run didn't work--she ate through it!

You need to either publish that whole exchange, blog it somewhere, or cross post. I hate having to go over to that other site to get my evening's entertainment. A 1-act play with extra comments of some of the juicy chorus responses--I'd pay for that. indeed!
