Be honest. As a white person, are you disgusted, angry or embarrassed by Marjorie Taylor Greene?

In Germany, teaching the Holocaust is mandatory.

It includes visits to concentration camp, museums, etc. They don't shy away from their own ugly history. Yet the kids aren't damaged; they're strengthened, matured, humbled. The U.S. needs to do same with slavery.

Not that complicated.

JUST IN: A federal judge has just ORDERED Llano County Texas to return "all books" that were removed from their libraries due to their content or viewpoint.

Library patrons successfully argued that "content-based restrictions" were likely unconstitutional.

The Texas judge is also prohibiting the officials from removing any more books while a lawsuit remains pending.

The books that were banned included a book for teens that calls the Ku Klux Klan a terrorist group, Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” and a comedic children’s book with three stories from Dawn McMillan’s “I Need a New Butt!” series.

The decision could set wide reaching precedent in light of recent book banning in Florida, supported by Ron DeSantis.

What a great victory for books! 💙

Corporate America’s playbook:

1) Exploit workers to maximize profits
2) Use profits to buy Congress
3) Use Congress to pass union-busting laws
4) Use union-busting laws to further exploit workers
5) Rinse and repeat

How we break this cycle: build back a powerful labor movement.

2021 Memory Hole: Here's TN Gov. Bill Lee at the Beretta factory outside Nashville signing permitless carry into law.

Police and citizens opposed the bill.

No, no, no, God damnit, Washington Post, this is not a "new normal." The point you should be making is just how abnormal this is. But instead you quite literally normalize the criminal running for president.
Trump campaign prepares for ‘new normal’: Running under indictment washingtonpost.com/politics/20

As we saw again this past week, we have socialism for the wealthy and connected, rugged individualism for everyone else.

Is it any wonder that so many see the system as rigged against them?

Our financial system depends on confidence that banks are sound.

But in the decade following the '08 financial crisis and subsequent milquetoast reform efforts, confidence has been shaky.

How to address this? Bring back Glass-Steagall.

Ever wonder why you feel like you must walk on tiptoes around even random political interactions with strangers? It’s actually all part of the plan…

Poverty is imposed. Poverty is not earned. Poverty is assigned.

Many people need to be encouraged to work and need a few hundred million just to show up, but others need to be threatened and harmed to work?

I say nope. Time to end that.

We tell ourselves
that the current affliction
overwhelming all of us
is a cold
just a particularly brutal cold
and because that is all it is
we need not bother
with going to get tested
after all, that might reveal
that the current affliction
isn’t actually just a cold.

Ron DeSantis says he wants to “make america Florida”

That means:

Mishandle Covid: lie about data, raid public officials, never distribute funds

Remove elected officials

Threaten teachers with felonies if they don’t remove books

Attack trans children, pass legislation to kidnap them from parents

Out LBGTQIA students

Demand student menstrual data

Remove companies’ 1A protections

Ignore 4A, 14A protections

Restrict reporter access

Allow rampant insurance fraud

4/ @emptywheel:

You can tell two stories:

Trump went to a failing conference and ratcheted up a partly empty room with the same incitement.

OR

WOW, Trump is so powerful even a "witchhunt" indictment can't stop him from being President.

Smart citizens aren't reckless enough to make light of the way he relies on political violence.

3/ @emptywheel:

Want to report on Trump's outrageousness?

Report on how his people are paying FBI Agents to spy on the investigation into him and his followers.

Blasting CPAC to audiences who would otherwise have ignored it just distracts from all that.

And I agree that @svdate's coverage of the speech--including its emphasis on how poorly attended it is--is far better than most. t.co/z822EYhHMX

Good thread from @emptywheel on #Trump / #CPAC coverage. 🧵 1/…

The way to cover Trump's CPAC speech is NOT to cover his promise to stay in the race if he's indicted, it's to point out how similar THIS SPEECH is for things he may be indicted for.

Emphasizing its inflammatory nature makes you part of the coup attempt.

2/ @emptywheel:

Trump's play is not about next election, per se. Reporting it as such is malpractice.

Trump's play=make prosecuting him an existential challenge for democracy, where his partisans will take out law enf to undermine the case.

Trump's play is to ALWAYS reinforce division in society, to ratchet it up, so his supporters will continue to piss away their lives by attacking democracy to save him.

His play=keep his supporters distracted from enormous fraud he commits against them.
